Spacewar! the first digital video game first ran as a demo in 1961 on an DEC Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-1 (Programmed Data Processor-1) computer and holds a central place in the development of video games as a cultural form.
Made In house
Spacewar! was created by a group of students and researchers (including Steve Russell) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1961, conceived of as a demonstration for the new Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-1 computer.
The completed game premiered at the 1962 Science Open House at MIT, and was later shared and modified at computer labs around the United States. This “computer toy” influenced untold technological advances and gave rise to the cultural phenomenon now known as video games.
All the Basic Building Blocks Of Modern Videogames
Among other things, Spacewar! set the template for the game development industry and its relationship to technology, established shooting as a core game mechanic, and inspired space and science fiction themes for future games including the Atari classic Asteroids and many others. Spacewar! was even an early cartridge game ported to the Atari VCS / 2600 in 1978 and deserves extra consideration for being an important title for the collector- it was one of the first home adaptations of a computer game.
RESEARCH SHOWS 50% OF CHRISTMAS TV SHOWS IN THE UK WILL BE REPEATS
Take note viewers of British television programming- Christmas Day will be the worst for TV repeats with 55% of programs having aired before. Years past? For example, a similar situation resulted back in Christmas 2020 seeing a massive 460% increase in downloads of Marmalade Game Studios games, which includes official versions of Monopoly, Taboo, Cluedo, Clue, Jumanji and The Game of Life. The studio believes that at least in part this trend was fueled by ‘boredom’ in watching Christmas TV reruns. The corresponding figure for 2019 was 54% with 2025 trending in the same direction.
In addition, new analysis* from the UK’s leading digital board games publisher reveals 50% of the programs this Christmas on BBC 1, BBC2, ITV 1, Channel 4 and Channel 5 will be repeats. The channels will show 403 programs across Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and 202 will be repeats. Marmalade Game Studio’s analysis reveals that 72% of the programs that will air on Channel 5 will be repeats, and the corresponding figures for Channel 4, ITV1, BBC2 and BBC1 will be 55%, 41%, 57% and 21% respectively.
Overall, Christmas Day will be the worst for repeats with 55% of programs having aired before, compared to 50% for Boxing Day and 46% for Christmas Eve.
Marmalade Game Studio’s analysis reveals that 52% of programs shown on the five channels across Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day in 2020 were repeats, and the corresponding figure for 2019 was 54%.

Michael Willis, co-CEO at Marmalade Game Studio, said: “Watching TV over Christmas as a family is one of the highlights of the festive season, but with so many repeats being aired, it can be easy to become bored. Playing board games can be a great way to tackle this and bring families together. “We have recently introduced a new Bubble feature, which more than a million families have signed up to, helping people stay in touch by video chat, allowing gamers to add friends and family to group chats, start games from these, and video chat whilst playing.”
When Marmalade Game Studio researched during the height of the Covid pandemic found nearly six out of 10 adults (57%) expected to be playing a board game during the Christmas season with Monopoly or Scrabble the most likely to be played.
Average spending on a new board game will be around £22 ($40.47CAD based on exchange rate at time of posting), the study found, with 828,000 people expecting to spend £50 ($91.98 CAD) or more on board games for the festive period. Digital gaming has surged in popularity and over the period of the lockdowns Marmalade Game Studio estimates downloads have increased 144% in total compared with the previous 18 months.
Marmalade Game Studio is the UK’s leading digital board game publisher, and it recently secured a £22.5 million ($41.39 million CAD) investment from private equity firm LDC to support recruitment and the development of new games, has seen revenues more than double in recent years. Marmalade Game Studio, which has offices in London and Lisbon, has continued to boost staff numbers while its range of games which includes Monopoly and Cluedo has expanded from 3 to 10 titles with more planned.
I was 7 years old in the mid-70’s, and the parents were carting myself and a few rep-team baseball buddies home from a game. They decided to stop at an old bowling alley in Burford, Ontario to get a bite to eat. I don’t remember what I ate, but what I’ll never forget was discovering that large cabinet standing on four metal peg-legs in the corner of the alley. Jutting up from the back was a headboard depicting brilliantly lit cartoon-like women with implausible breasts, silently calling out to me to come closer. My one baseball bud knew what it was all about. “Hey, do you want to play a game?” I most certainly did want to play a game. He dropped a quarter in the machine, pushed the credit button and the machine chugged to life. I’ll never forget my first game of pinball.
That moment started a lifetime love for me.
The number of hours spent chasing the silver ball in arcades, bowling alleys, laundromats and pizza parlours may have cost me a few grade points in school, but I developed into a very skillful player, winning cash prizes, a television, and my greatest tournament victory: a classic pinball machine which I now get to play at home. I even travelled to The World Pinball Championships in Pittsburgh to test my flipper prowess against the best, and found out I still had skills that I needed to work on!
Pinball kept pleasure and solace at never more than 25 cents away.
Nothing could clear my head and put me in the moment like releasing the plunger and sending that silver sphere jetting onto the playfield. What was going to happen this time? The nudge of the machine was its very own dance; enough pushing to alter the path of the ball, yet not so much that you might incur a disqualifying “tilt.” The immense satisfaction of a well-targeted flipper shot hitting the mark, the helpless feeling of a ball heading down the middle with maddening precision. The shrill clang of the bells, the churning of the scoring reels on the way to a free game. Man, there was nothing else like it. For the Silo, John McIntosh.

Online casinos actively use bonuses and promotions to attract and retain players. For both beginners and experienced users, understanding how these offers work is important not only to increase the chances of winning but also to ensure safe and controlled gameplay. In this article, we will explore the types of bonuses, how to use them effectively, and what to pay attention to.
Types of Bonuses in Online Casinos
Modern online platforms offer a wide range of casino bonuses. The main types include:
Welcome bonuses – given to new players upon registration and first deposit.
Free spins – free spins on online slots, often included in welcome or seasonal promotions.
Cashback – a partial return of lost funds over a certain period.
Loyalty programs – points awarded for activity, which can be exchanged for bonuses or gifts.
Every bonus comes with wagering requirements, expiration dates, and bet limits. Ignoring these rules can nullify the value of the offer.
How to Use Bonuses Effectively
To get the most out of bonuses, follow a few simple guidelines:
Read the terms carefully – before activating a bonus, pay close attention to the rules, especially wagering requirements and game restrictions.
Plan your budget – use bonuses as an additional resource without exceeding your personal betting limits.
Combine with strategies – bonuses can be applied to online slots and table games, considering your chosen betting strategy.
For example, platforms like Martin Casino offer free spins and cashback systems with clear terms, helping both beginners and experienced players use bonuses safely and efficiently.
What to Watch for When Choosing a Bonus
Not all offers are equally profitable. When selecting a promotion, consider:
Bonus size – very large bonuses may come with complex wagering requirements.
Expiration date – always check how much time you have to meet the conditions.
Game restrictions – some bonuses apply only to specific online slots or types of bets.
Withdrawal conditions – make sure the wagering requirements are realistic and achievable.
Common Mistakes When Using Bonuses
Beginners often make typical mistakes, such as:
Activating all bonuses at once and losing control over their bankroll.
Not reading the terms and not knowing how to meet the wagering requirements.
Trying to use bonuses for “quick profit,” forgetting that gambling should be entertainment, not a guaranteed income source.
A responsible approach, budget and time management help players enjoy bonuses while minimizing risks.
The Future of Casino Bonuses and Promotions
With technological advancement, bonus offers are becoming more personalized. Artificial intelligence analyzes player behavior and suggests the most suitable promotions. Mobile casino bonuses and crypto-platform promotions are also gaining popularity, allowing fast and secure transactions.
Online casinos continue to use bonuses as a tool to increase player engagement. However, the key to successful play is understanding the rules, having a conscious approach, and managing your bankroll wisely.
FAQ
What is wagering a bonus? It is a condition requiring a certain number of bets before bonus funds can be withdrawn.
Can I use multiple bonuses at the same time? Usually not – most platforms allow only one bonus to be activated at a time to prevent abuse.
Which bonuses are best for beginners?Welcome bonuses and free spins are ideal because they let players try games without significant investments.
Can a bonus be lost? Yes, if wagering requirements are not met or betting limits are exceeded. How to choose a profitable bonus? Look at the size, expiration date, game restrictions, and realism of the wagering requirements.
For the first time in its young but impactful history, the Moneymaker Tour crossed into Canadian territory, and it did so in style.
Last May, poker fans flooded Playground Poker Club just outside Montreal, Quebec, for a highly anticipated series backed by a whopping CAD $1 million guarantee. As one of the fastest-growing live tournament series in North America, the Moneymaker Tour, founded in 2023 by 2003 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Champion Chris Moneymaker and Executive Manager Tony Burns, had already lit up the US poker scene with events in Cincinnati, Houston, Florida, and Maryland.
WSOP Champion Chris Moneymaker
After a breakout 2024 that saw the tour expand to 10 US locations and its first international stop in Aruba, its Canadian debut marked a historic step in the tour’s global expansion.
The Playground stop quickly became a magnet for the country’s poker elite, recreational grinders, and railbirds alike. The $1,150 buy-in Moneymaker Main Event attracted an enormous field, smashing the CAD $500,000 guarantee and reinforcing Canada’s hunger for high-level live poker. As poker fans cheered on, the tournament transformed from a typical live event into a landmark moment for the Canadian poker community. And when the final hand was dealt, Toronto local Feizal Satchu hoisted the Moneymaker Trophy and took home a life-changing $150,000 payday, forever etching his name into the tour’s history.
Feizal Satchu’s Breakout Victory at Playground and What’s Next in Aruba
Feizal Satchu’s win was a defining moment in a career that had, until now, been largely under the radar. A regular on the Canadian poker circuit, Satchu had cashed in several events in the past, but nothing on this scale. Overcoming a talented field of seasoned pros and ambitious up-and-comers, he maintained composure throughout a rollercoaster final table to secure his first Moneymaker Trophy and his biggest career win to date.
As the confetti settled at the Playground, the buzz turned to what’s next for the Moneymaker Tour. Fortunately for fans and players, the momentum isn’t slowing down. From September 18 to 28, the tour heads back to paradise for its second-ever Aruba stop, a sun-soaked series that’s already being billed as one of the hottest poker events of the fall. The crown jewel of the Aruba schedule is the $300,000 guaranteed Main Event, with a $1,700 buy-in and an experience unlike any other.
Thanks to Chris Moneymaker’s ongoing partnership with Americas Cardroom, players worldwide can qualify for Aruba through online satellites that offer full poker vacation packages. These packages include airfare, hotel accommodations, and Main Event entry, bringing the dream of mixing poker with palm trees to life for a fraction of the cost. “We’re all about making poker fun and accessible,” Moneymaker said. “Whether you’re chasing the title or just chasing the sun, this is your shot.” With Feizal Satchu’s dramatic win in Montreal now in the books, all eyes are turning to Aruba to see who will be the next breakout star. As the tour builds momentum internationally, it’s clear that the Moneymaker Tour is not just about the cards but about creating unforgettable stories.
Americas Cardroom’s Crypto-Friendly Platform Powers the Moneymaker Dream
At the heart of the Moneymaker Tour’s explosive growth is its partnership with online poker powerhouse Americas Cardroom. More than just a sponsor, US online poker site Americas Cardroom is the engine behind the tour’s global accessibility. By offering a wide range of online satellites (many of which start at micro-stakes), Americas Cardroom helps everyday players turn their dollars into dream live poker experiences. For Canadians eager to compete on the tour, the platform provides a vital entry point without needing to travel or bankroll large buy-ins.
One of the key reasons for Americas Cardroom’s enduring success with its player base is its innovative embrace of cryptocurrency and e-wallets. Players can deposit and withdraw funds using Bitcoin and other popular cryptocurrencies, offering them quick, secure, and low-fee transactions. This forward-thinking approach resonates particularly well with millennial and Gen Z players, who value both speed and privacy, as discussed by Elizabeth Kerr in a previous article. Crypto deposits on Americas Cardroom often process in minutes, which is a stark contrast to the delays and fees associated with traditional banking methods.
As the gaming industry shifts toward digital-first solutions, Americas Cardroom has positioned itself ahead of the curve. Alongside its crypto integrations, the platform also supports a variety of e-wallets, allowing users to manage multi-currency accounts and enjoy seamless transactions across borders. In a market where convenience and reliability are king, Americas Cardroom delivers both, and that synergy with the Moneymaker Tour’s ethos of accessibility and excitement is no coincidence. Ultimately, this partnership is creating a feedback loop that benefits everyone: online players qualify for real-world events, local legends like Feizal Satchu emerge on live stages, and fans get to witness poker’s next great stories unfold. Whether you’re grinding online in Toronto, chasing the sun in Aruba, or watching from the rail, the Moneymaker Tour powered by Americas Cardroom delivers the kind of poker that dreams are made of.
Conclusion
Feizal Satchu’s landmark victory at Playground not only secured him a place in Canadian poker history but also signaled the growing relevance of the Moneymaker Tour beyond US borders. With its perfect blend of big guarantees, accessible buy-ins, and a strong online partnership with Americas Cardroom, the tour is redefining what it means to go from ordinary to extraordinary in poker. As the action shifts to Aruba, the next Feizal Satchu could be just one satellite away.
It may be hard for you to believe, but a very passionate group of game players are still contesting video game records, new and old, and vying to become champion in their particular game of skill in order to be immortalized in the on-line video game record bible “Twin Galaxies”.
Go check it out.
Maybe it’s time to limber up those fingers and go for the record. Every great wrestling match is predicated on a simple concept that holds for the ages: A ‘babyface’ (good guy’) with a seemingly overwhelming challenge vs. a ‘heel’ (bad guy), who has the cards stacked, usually unfairly, in his favor. As humans, we have an innate need to create an emotional investment in our favorite character, which in turn makes the outcome of the contest be something that we care about seeing.
That tried and true formula is fully rendered in a great documentary that I regularly watch called “The King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters”. Instead of wrestlers though, we’re dealing with elite-level, arcade-version Donkey Kong players facing off for the world record. As well, and unlike a wrestling match, our outcome is not predetermined and this reality adds oh-so deliciously to the drama as it unfolds.
Now, bring in the chief combatants in our story: social pushover Steve Wiebe, a stuck in second place, life-long loser that just can’t seem to get a break in life vs. chicken-wing sauce kingpin Billy Mitchell; he of the hypnotizing mullet and Charlie Sheen-type zeal.
Here we’ve got classic good guy vs. bad guy at its finest!
Watch how Wiebe finds great difficulty becoming accepted into the ranks of high level players even though his skill and scores are right up there with the best of the best. Billy Mitchell and his team of disciples manage to cheapen and disrespect Wiebe throughout, holding him back, and in turn making the viewer desperate for a little ass-kicking payback. Can Wiebe come through? The answer will surprise you. The climax is better than any made for Hollywood movie, and will keep you on the edge of your seats.
It doesn’t matter if you like video games or not, the emotional pull of this story cannot be denied, and I guarantee that you will dig it. “King of Kong” gets my five silo rating. There’s the full movie up above but the DVD has some great extras that get right to the root of some true video game nerd-dom. For the Silo, John McIntosh.

Few casinos are as clearly designed with Canadians in mind. You won’t find currency conversion traps or confusing T&C wording here. It’s clean, direct, and localized. That already places Legzo Casino in Canada ahead of the pack, especially for users seeking stress-free onboarding and banking. The site reflects market expectations without overengineering the user experience.
Reliable Deposit and Withdrawal Channels
Transactions through Interac and e-Transfer are near-instant, and verification isn’t a bureaucratic swamp. The payment flow is smooth — not flawless — but efficient enough to compete with major brands in the region. Players don’t spend time guessing if their withdrawal is “stuck.” That’s rare. Here are the most trusted channels:
Interac Online
iDebit and InstaDebit
Visa and Mastercard (CAD-only)
CAD Support Without Hidden Charges
Currency clarity matters. Unlike some offshore sites, this one doesn’t quietly shift CAD into USD mid-transaction. Payouts match the deposit currency, without exchange-rate surprises. That keeps bankroll management predictable and transparent.
What Separates Legzo Casino From Other Platforms
It’s not just flashy games and bonus banners. There’s consistent backend performance and a curated software lineup from heavyweight developers. Veterans will notice low latency on live tables and faster reel rendering on slot rounds. Most who play Legzo Casino find the gameplay snappy — and the fairness ratings verifiable. That’s important in a competitive sector like Canada’s.
Game Providers That Define Quality
Rather than flood users with obscure titles, the selection here sticks with proven giants. That means stable RTP, recognizable volatility patterns, and cross-platform support. Expect Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, and Evolution Gaming leading the catalogue.
Slot machines with certified high RTP values
Live casino studios optimized for mobile
Crypto-friendly table games for advanced players
Loyalty That Actually Rewards
The welcome bonus won’t change your life — but the cashback system might. Long-term play is incentivized through realistic milestones. Users climbing the VIP ladder don’t feel punished for a bad week. That’s rare, and it works. The program doesn’t just promise perks — it delivers them.
Customer Care and Data Integrity
It’s not perfect, but support agents are fast and direct. No frustrating chatbot loops. The SSL encryption is standard 256-bit, and you’ll see two-factor authentication pushed early. Frequent login Legzo Casino users have extra fraud-detection layers. It’s reassuring, even for crypto gamblers.
Player Insights and Real Gameplay Impressions
Forums and Reddit threads don’t lie — the buzz is mostly positive. Canadian players highlight the smooth banking and reliability of game servers. During testing, we noticed one glitch in the slot loader — minor, fixed quickly. Beyond that? No crashes, no lag, no excuse to leave. The rhythm of the site feels built for real use, not just show. The gambling industry in Canada has changed a lot over the years. While land-based casinos remain popular, online platforms have opened up new opportunities for players who prefer the convenience of playing from home. With better internet access, secure payment methods, and a wider variety of games, more Canadians are choosing online casinos over traditional ones.
Online casinos allow players to enjoy everything from classic slot machines to live dealer games, making them a preferred choice for those looking for excitement without visiting a physical casino. Many platforms are now licensed and regulated to ensure safe and fair play. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, the options available today cater to everyone.
One of the biggest attractions of online casinos is the variety of games they offer. Websites casinosincanada provide detailed reviews and recommendations on the best platforms available, making it easier for players to choose a trustworthy casino.
Understanding Online Casino Regulations in Canada
The legal status of online gambling in Canada is unique. While gambling is allowed, it is regulated at the provincial level. This means that each province has its own rules regarding online casinos. For example, Ontario has introduced a fully regulated market through iGaming Ontario, allowing licensed operators to provide legal online gambling services.
Other provinces, such as British Columbia and Quebec, operate their own online casino platforms. However, many Canadians still play on international sites that accept players from Canada. These offshore casinos operate under licenses from jurisdictions such as Malta, Gibraltar, and Curacao.
Since each province sets its own rules, it’s important for players to check whether an online casino is legally allowed to operate in their area. Choosing a licensed casino ensures a safer experience, as these platforms follow strict guidelines to protect players.

How to Choose the Right Online Casino
If you are new to online gambling, selecting a reliable casino is crucial. Here are a few things to look for:
1. Licensing and Security
Always choose a casino that is licensed by a trusted authority. This ensures fair gaming and secure transactions. Look for SSL encryption, which protects personal and financial data.
2. Game Selection
A good casino should offer a wide variety of games, including slots, table games, and live dealer options. Make sure the platform provides games from reputable software providers.
3. Bonuses and Promotions
Many casinos attract new players with welcome bonuses, free spins, and loyalty programs. Read the terms and conditions carefully to understand wagering requirements before claiming any offers.
4. Payment Methods
Choose a casino that supports convenient and secure payment options. Common methods include credit cards, e-wallets, and bank transfers. Fast withdrawal processing is a key factor to consider.
5. Customer Support
Reliable customer support is essential for a smooth gaming experience. Look for casinos that offer 24/7 assistance through live chat, email, or phone.
The Future of Online Gambling in Canada
The online gambling industry in Canada is evolving rapidly. Ontario’s success in regulating its online market may encourage other provinces to introduce similar frameworks. This could lead to safer and more transparent gaming environments across the country.
Technology is also changing the way people play. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are expected to enhance the gaming experience, making online casinos more interactive. Additionally, cryptocurrency payments may become more common, providing faster and more secure transactions.
Final Thoughts
Online casinos offer a great way to enjoy casino games without visiting a physical location. With the right precautions, players can have a fun and safe experience. Checking for proper licensing, choosing reputable platforms, and setting limits on gameplay are important steps in responsible gambling.
As the industry grows, more Canadian players will have access to better platforms, improved security, and a wider range of gaming options. Whether you are playing for fun or real money, always gamble responsibly and choose casinos that prioritize player protection. For the Silo, Vinayak Gupta.
Via our friends at Gamerant.November, 2024– Fortnite Battle Royale features a wide variety of unique cosmetics, ranging from wacky outfits and superhero skins to creative gliders, allowing players to customize their look across all Fortnite experiences. While many of these cosmetics can be earned through the seasonal Battle Pass or unlocked for free by completing challenges, the vast majority are purchased through the Item Shop.
Outfits and gliders aren’t the only cosmetics players can acquire, however. Since the introduction of Rocket Racing, car cosmetics have also made their debut. While some fans may be eager to get their hands on the Fast & Furious Nissan Skyline, an iconic supercar has also joined the Fortnite roster. Here’s how to get the Porsche 911 GT3 RS in Fortnite.
To get the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, players will need to purchase the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Bundle from the Fortnite item shop for 2,800 V-Bucks. For players who fall short, they can purchase a pack of 2,800 V-Bucks for $22.99 usd/ $32.29 cad. Aside from the Porsche 911 GT3 RS car body, the bundle also comes with eight decals that players can equip for their ride, along with two unique wheels.
Much like other vehicles, players can customize the Porsche 911 GT3 RS with 49 colors, though it lacks a secondary color option. However, players can still get a bit of color variety by editing the color of any decal they equip for it.
Purchase Through The Rocket League Item Shop
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is also available to purchase in Rocket League for 2,800 Credits. Just like its Fortnite counterpart, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS comes with two wheels, but only three decals. For players who regularly play both games, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS will transfer from Rocket League to Fortnite and vice versa once purchased, granted that both games use the same Epic Account, eliminating the need to purchase the item twice.
For those who are wondering, the closest Credit bundle that players can purchase to cover the cost of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS in Rocket League is 3000 Credits, which is $24.99usd/ $35.10 cad . This leaves players with 200 Credits to spare, which can be put towards their next purchase.
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS first appeared in the Fortnite and Rocket League Item Shops on November 20, 2024, and will only be available until December 3, 2024. Like other cosmetics, it may return to the shops at a later date.
Acclaimed game designer Roberta Williams revives Colossal Cave as a retro, point-&-click, cave exploration puzzler. Based on the original 1970’s design by Will Crowther & Don Woods this 3D update maintains its vintage charm, while revitalizing it for modern gamers.
Colossal Cave is a reimagining of the original text-based adventure game, first introduced in 1975 by Will Crowther and Don Woods, as a fully immersive 3D VR experience.
Colossal Cave is already well known to tens of millions of gamers worldwide. Several elements of the game, such as the codewords “Xyzzy” and “Plugh”, are recognized instantly by many gamers.
Roberta Williams, who has received widespread industry recognition including several “Hall of Fame” awards, and who is the designer of several industry leading hit games, including King’s Quest, Phantasmagoria, Black Cauldron, and many more, is adapting the game for the VR world and bringing to life its many characters.
In the game, players explore a vast and extensive cave, seeking treasures within. Along the way, they will encounter a variety of characters, some of whom will attack and some of whom will entertain. For instance, there is a Troll (at the troll bridge), a bear, a snake, dwarves (seven, of course), and a pirate. The player’s quest is to find all the treasure. The challenge is not easy, and there will be a wide variety of puzzles to overcome.
Though theaudio is only in English provisions have been made for many other languages via text subtitles: French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Arabic, German, Polish, Portuguese, Korean, Russian, Thai

Ars Technica stated that Williams was “one of the more iconic figures in adventure gaming”. GameSpot named her tenth in their list of “the most influential people in computer gaming of all time” for “pushing the envelope of graphic adventures” and being “especially proactive in creating games from a woman’s point of view and titles that appealed to the mainstream market, all the while integrating the latest technologies in graphics and sound wherever possible.” In 1997, Computer Gaming World ranked her tenth on the list of the most influential people of all time in computer gaming for adventure game design. In 2009, IGN placed the Williams 23rd on the list of top game creators of all time, expressing hope that “maybe one day, we’ll see the Williams again as well.” She was also a source of inspiration for the character of Cameron Howe in the AMC television drama Halt and Catch Fire.
The Original Colossal Cave was a vintage gaming icon
Williams was given the Pioneer Award at the 20th Game Developers Choice Awards in March 2020 for her work in the graphical adventure game genre and for co-founding Sierra On-Line.
SOME OF THE GAMES BY ROBERTA WILLIAMS
Ken Williams
Ken started his career as an IBM mainframe software engineer in the Los Angeles area, specializing in databases and networked systems, while consulting with a wide variety of companies, including McDonnell Douglas, Electra Records, Bekins Moving and Storage, Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, Financial Decision Systems and others.
Ken, alongside his wife Roberta, co-founded Sierra On-Line in 1979. Ken ran the company as its CEO for nearly twenty years. During Ken’s tenure at Sierra the company, Sierra regularly topped bestseller charts worldwide, releasing over 200 titles for a variety of hardware platforms and languages. Sierra became a public company on Nasdaq in 1987, grew to one thousand employees, and was sold in 1996 for one billion dollars.
Sierra was known for its technology leadership, and pioneered such technologies as vector graphics, sound and music in computer games, avatars, and network games.
In his role as Sierra’s CEO, Williams focused on innovation: “I’m not sure how typical I am of other CEOs. Most of my time is spent looking at product. To me, everything is about being able to build awesome product. Any game which does not push the state of the art leaves an opportunity for a competitor’s game to look better.”
Sierra’s extensive list of hit products include: Leisure-Suit Larry, King’s Quest, Phantasmagoria, Space Quest, Red Baron, Nascar Racing, Hoyle’s Card Games, Dr. Brain, Mickey’s Space Adventure, Half-Life, Ultima, and many more.
After selling Sierra, Ken and Roberta retired to Mexico where they lived for over twenty years. They also purchased a small, rugged, ocean-crossing capable yacht and used it to explore the world, visiting over twenty-five countries and crossing both the Atlantic and the Pacific. Their adventures include crossing the Bering Sea as part of a three-boat group calling themselves “The Great Siberian Sushi Run”. Ken and Roberta enjoy a “second 15 minutes of fame” as world cruisers and Ken wrote four books about their travels.
In 2021, while locked down by the Pandemic, Ken found time to write about the “Sierra days” and captured the history in the bestselling book, “Not All Fairy Tales Have Happy Endings”. With a renewed interest in games, Ken decided to dig into how modern games are produced and spent time learning the Unity 3D Engine. In a loop back to their earlier history, Roberta suggested Ken program a game. Thus, was invented their new company: Cygnus Entertainment.
Back in February we wrote about the superb Oculus Rift virtual reality sailing app MarineVerse Cup. This fully immersive and accurate simulation surprised us with its physics based playset and incredibly realistic sense of actually sailing. (Add a fan moving air into your face and body for an even more visceral experience.) It is a most welcome virtual reality experience.
MarineVerse started development with a focus on regattas while aiming to create what the developers called “a chill sailing game”. Like all robust apps, the developments and updates continued and I wouldn’t be surprised if one day we might see knot tying or rigging etc. as part of their sailing school.
Night Sailing!
The latest update allows VR mariners to try night sailing & boating and experience relaxing sailing under the stars at Akalana Island while testing navigation skills like never before.
Night Navigation Practice
Have you ever sailed at night? Can you distinguish safe water from an isolated danger mark by just looking at its lights? Often a feared outing for a novice sailor in the real world, you can learn safely, at your own pace, and without the fear of grounding your boat and risking your life.
Test your skills in MarineVerse Cup:
( The video doesn’t do it full justice; make sure to try it in VR yourself. )

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the way security is managed at cryptocurrency casinos. From detecting fraudulent activities to ensuring fair play, AI’s role is becoming indispensable. Understanding how AI enhances security can provide better insights into its applications and benefits.
In recent years, the rise of cryptocurrency casinos has brought new challenges and opportunities for security measures. As a casino enthusiast, you might wonder how these platforms maintain integrity and protect users’ assets. The answer lies in the sophisticated use of AI technologies that are transforming the landscape of online gambling.
How AI detects fraudulent activities
One of the most significant advantages of AI in cryptocurrency casinos is its ability to detect fraudulent activities. By analyzing large datasets and recognizing patterns that indicate suspicious behaviour, AI systems can flag potential fraud before it causes harm.
For instance, some platforms featured on casinoutansvensklicens.ltd leverage AI to identify unusual betting patterns that might suggest cheating or money laundering. This proactive approach not only safeguards the casino’s operations but also ensures a secure environment for players. AI can even delve deeper, analyzing blockchain transactions to identify suspicious activity linked to specific crypto wallets, further strengthening the platform’s defences.
The importance of fair play
Another crucial aspect where AI shines is in ensuring fair play at cryptocurrency casinos. These platforms rely on complex algorithms to generate random outcomes for games, which can sometimes be vulnerable to manipulation. By implementing AI-driven solutions, casinos like those found here can monitor and verify the randomness of game results continuously. Utilizing such technology builds trust among players, knowing that the games they are participating in are fair and unbiased.
Improving user experience
AI isn’t just about security; it also significantly enhances the overall user experience at cryptocurrency casinos. Personalized gaming experiences are becoming more common as AI analyzes players’ behaviours and preferences to offer tailored recommendations. This means you can enjoy a more engaging and enjoyable gaming session with suggestions that match your interests. Additionally, AI-powered chatbots provide instant customer support, addressing queries and resolving issues swiftly.
The future of AI in cryptocurrency casinos
Looking ahead, the role of AI in cryptocurrency casinos is poised to expand even further. As technology continues to advance, so will the capabilities of AI systems in predicting and mitigating risks. New developments in machine learning and data analytics promise even more robust security measures and enhanced player experiences. Staying informed about these innovations is essential for anyone interested in the dynamic landscape of online gambling.

Paris, France. April, 2024– Leading esports club Team Vitality is thrilled to announce the contract renewal of star Counter Strike 2 player Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut. Having been with the club since the beginning of his professional career in 2018, ZywOo has renewed his commitment to the organization until 2026, ready to take on new sporting challenges.
THE KING STAYS IN PARIS UNTIL 2026
ZywOo’s journey with Team Vitality has been nothing short of extraordinary. Even amidst an ever-evolving industry with a variety of opportunities to explore, ZywOo made the resolute decision to renew his contract with the club that nurtured his talent, built a team around his incredible skill set, and propelled him to new heights. This decision underscores his loyalty, commitment, and unwavering trust in Team Vitality and its vision.
“I have always seen Team Vitality as a family, where I can flourish and develop my full potential. I feel there’s a strong sense of unity, it’s my second home. I also wanted to stay because I believe strongly in our project, in my team. I think we have a brilliant lineup,” explains Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut. “In 2023, I experienced an incredible moment and managed to win a Major with my teammates. I’m delighted to continue this adventure with the club, and I’m convinced that we can go even further.”
“One of the greatest responsibilities I’ve had to manage as the founder and President of Team Vitality was to ensure that this 18-year-old player who joined us in 2018 could one day be crowned the world’s best player and win a Major,” said Fabien ‘Neo’ Devide, co-founder and President of Team Vitality. “Thanks to his exceptional individual skills, he quickly became recognised as the best player in the world. For the Major, it was a longer, collective effort: it was a project that was held together thanks to loyalty, hard work, repetition, and an appetite for effort. In the years to come, we will continue to help him evolve into a leadership role. He will take even more space because he is not only the face of our future team but also that of Team Vitality.”
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Team Vitality hosted an exclusive event at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. Fans gathered to witness the unveiling of ZywOo’s renewal, which was broadcast live on Team Vitality’s social media accounts.
Mathieu Herbaut started playing Counterstrike when he was only seven years old. He began his career with Team Vitality in 2018, joining the CS:GO roster as the French club ventured into the title. Alongside French teammate Dan “apEX” Madesclaire, he negotiated the club’s turning point towards the international scene at the end of 2021. By the end of 2023, the CS2 roster was crowned the best team in the world by HLTV.
Since entering the professional scene, ZywOo’s exceptional skill has not only led Team Vitality to multiple championship titles, such as securing the final CS:GO Major on home soil in Paris, but has also garnered numerous individual awards, including being crowned HLTV’s Player of the Year award in 2019, 2020, and 2023 and his inclusion in the prestigious Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2021.
These accomplishments have earned him the affectionate nickname of ‘The Chosen One’ within the Counter-Strike community. A nickname all the more relevant as the young Frenchman was born in the same month as the release of the original Counter-Strike game.
ZYWOO, THE FACE AND FRANCHISE PLAYER OF TEAM VITALITY
Since its creation in 2013, Team Vitality has had the mission of identifying, developing, and nurturing talent in the esports scene. Among the young athletes who have particularly marked the history of the club is ZywOo.
Ten years later, Team Vitality and ZywOo have left an indelible mark on the esports landscape, winning numerous titles and consolidating their position as leaders in the Counter-Strike scene. As they look towards 2024, their goal is to build on these achievements and continue to lead the way in innovation and excellence in esports.
“This is the third time in his career that ZywOo has renewed with us since 2018,” continues Fabien Devide, co-founder and President of Team Vitality. “We are proud to have such a magical talent among our athletes. I even think he deserves even more recognition on a national scale – just like Mbappé in football, Karabatic in handball, or Wembanyama in basketball. ZywOo is part of this generation of great French champions.”

ZywOo’s career so far
Courtesy of dotesports.com. When it comes to talented and renowned CS players, there are hardly more popular names than ZywOo. In January 2024 the French sniper earned HLTV’s Player of 2023 reward. He also boasted that title twice before, becoming the second player next to s1mple who achieved that three times.
It’s obviously not an accident. ZywOo led Vitality to their first Major on home soil in May 2023, where they hoisted the BLAST.tv Paris Major. The 23-year-old was awarded with the MVP award of the event. Besides claiming a Major trophy, ZywOo and Vitality have numerous other gold medals under their belt, being undoubtedly one of the greatest teams of the current era.
What about players here in North America?

Stewie2K is one of North America’s most well-known Counter Strike and VALORANT players.
The 25-year-old cemented himself as one of the five North American players to come back against FaZe Clan in the final of the ELEAGUE Boston CS:GO Major 2018. It’s the only CS:GO Major won by a North American squad.
After months of ups and downs, Stewie2K retired from Counter-Strike and transferred to VALORANT in July 2022 to become a full-time content creator. But when CS2 was announced on March 22, the American shared that he was “ready to grind” again. On March 29, he joined Legacy on loan, marking his official return to professional action.

Ever wished the MarineVerse Cup felt just a bit more like the real thing?
What is MarineVerse?
MarineVerse mission is to inspire, train and connect sailors, and share the feeling of this amazing sport with a wide global audience all via the virtual reality wonder of the Oculus Quest 2 (& the newer Quest 3) headset and hand controllers.
Through our VR sailing projects we bring entertainment and education together through virtual reality (VR). We create experiences to enable more people to sail through the creation of games, training experiences and more.
We’ve been busy over the last few weeks, rolling out some cool updates to the MarineVerse Cup simulation.
One of the first new features you can dive into is “visual waves.”
Check out what people from our Discord chat said after giving it a try:
“Waves are awesome!”
“Wave motion is great! doesn’t make me feel sick 🙂 it’s kind of calming, and it feels a little more like I’m in a real boat”“Strange to say I found it great in free sailing but when I raced with it I felt a bit sweaty.”
“I love the wave action. Adds realism.”
Want to try it out? Just go to the Main Menu, hit Settings -> Boat -> Enable Waves Motion. You can find more details here:
After you’ve had a chance to test it out, I’d really like to hear your thoughts. Did you enjoy it? Please leave your comments below at the end of my article.

Dr. Eric Dolansky- Goodman School of Business at Brock University: “Consumers are happier about price increases when they know they’re coming and why they’re happening.”
For years, hotels and airlines, car rental agencies and energy companies have been using a phenomena known as dynamic pricing to set costs for their consumers. This real-time pricing results in fluctuations depending on a variety of factors, but is often associated with supply and demand – and it is becoming more and more prevalent in the sports world.
This economic practice has been studied by Dr. Eric Dolansky, an assistant professor at the Goodman School of Business at Brock University. Specifically, Dr. Dolansky has examined sequences of pricing and the effect it has on consumer habits. While many consumers grumble about dynamic pricing causing hikes in gas prices, that in part has to do with the unpredictability of the increases.
The situation with sports tickets is a bit different in the minds of consumers, argues Professor Dolansky. This type of dynamic pricing is tied to demand, so consumers expect the prices to increase as the nature of the competition increases, or the date of the event nears and the supply of available tickets dwindles. For example, seats in Section 121 at the Air Canada Centre on October 17 for a Toronto Maple Leafs game against the Carolina Hurricanes range from $193 to $223. But in the same section for the Leafs’ October 26 game versus the Pittsburgh Penguins, tickets range from $253 to $288.
It’s not a new idea- from wanderstories.com: “In Roman times, the tickets were known as tessara – small clay discs, which were stamped with details of the locus, or seat number, gradus or row number, cuneus, or sector and entrance gate. For example: LOC X, meaning seat number 10, GRAD V – row number 5, CVN III – sector number 3. Tickets were free, but everyone had to have a ticket to attend. Tickets were distributed to organizations, institutions and groups, who in turn, distributed them to the Roman citizens. As the games were popular, there was also a black market, where tickets would be sold, with high prices for some of the most important games.”
Evidence Professor Dolansky has studied suggests when consumers are aware prices are going to rise from a particular point, and they have a basic understanding of the events that are driving the increase, they tend to believe it is more fair. For the Silo, Stephen Murdoch

Almost two years ago, the Gamers Without Borders tournament was held to raise funds worldwide for pressing causes and give a glimpse into how the future of fundraising could be tied into the future of gaming.
With a $10 million prize fund up for grabs, the tournament consisted of one-off tournaments for a variety of eSports titles – from Fortnite to FIFA. Those who played, commentated, and watched were all persuaded to donate to a charity – from UNICEF to Direct Relief and International Medical Corps.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1269642242068754432
The tournament gained widespread attention.
The final FIFA tournament even had an appearance from Snoop Dogg and One Direction’s Liam Payne. Some of the world’s most prominent footballers, such as Paulo Dybala, Dele Alli, Joao Felix and Andre Silva, managed to raise around $1.5 million through their gaming exploits. By combining some stars of traditional sports and recognizable celebrities with the eSports tournament, not only did the industry managed to raise funds for charity, but they also proved that they could be deployed as a force for good going forwards.
Part of the crusade for eSports as an industry is to prove to the mainstream that it is a valid and legitimate counterpart to traditional sports and traditional gaming.
By merging the two, eSports is able to benefit from both sides. The success of Gamers Without Borders could prove just how much of a fundraising machine eSports could be and how, with a greater uptake in those who engage with the industry, the industry could do many more benevolent acts.
There are many ways that eSports is gaining the legitimacy it deserves, and this charitable tournament helped prove it. Indeed, as eSports betting attests to, allowing eSports fans and spectators to wager on the outcome of matches and tournaments gives it further credibility as a likeness to traditional sports. Indeed, bettors can wager on games from Dota 2 to StarCraft 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Overwatch and Rainbow Six in a similar way to how they bet on football, basketball and horse racing.
The interconnected nature of eSports – that often involve connecting with hundreds of people across social media and streaming sites like Twitch – means that causes can be amplified to audiences around the world. The younger generation who are likely to be participating in and watching eSports are also arguably more likely to think altruistically, according to research, and will often use their platform as a professional eSports player to spread positive information.
eSports is thriving, and its supportive community is in part to thank for that.
But the main barrier to its further success is its need to be legitimized by mainstream society. Given its professional polish, the good works it’s doing, the chances for careers, and the engagement of fans, it’s clear that the eSports industry is proving itself to be a real contender. The eSports industry might not be able to save the world single-handedly, but as it continues to gain tremendous steam, it could definitely be a vehicle that helps affect positive change. For the Silo, Bethany Riley.

IRVINE, Calif. – Waaaay back in Summer 2011, BenQ America Corp. announced that as the official gaming monitor sponsor of Major League Gaming (MLG), the world’s largest competitive video game league, it would be supplying monitors for the then upcoming 2012 MLG Pro Circuit Summer Championship that were held in Raleigh, North Carolina. At the tournament, hundreds of the top gamers from around the world competed using BenQ’s RL2450HT and GL2450HM monitors, designed specifically for professional gaming and engineered to meet the specific needs of eSports athletes. The GL2450HM was also featured in the Virtua Fighter(TM) 5 and Skullgirls(TM) Exhibition Tournaments, alongside the Pro Circuit competition.
At the 2012 MLG Pro Circuit Summer Championship, gamers — including BenQ-sponsored Team Dynamic and Manuel “Grubby” Schenkhuizen — competed for their share of nearly $215,000 in prizes playing the real-time strategy (RTS) games StarCraft(R) II: Wings of Liberty and League of Legends(R) on PC, and fighting games Mortal Kombat(TM) and SoulCalibur(R) V on the PlayStation(R)3 (PS3(TM)).

For those retro system fans, there was even a Summer Championship that let fans get in on the action with Virtua Fighter 5 and Skullgirls Exhibition Tournaments, played on the good old PS3.
Anyone with a Raleigh Spectator or Competitor Pass could participate in these tournaments, which were sponsored by PlayStation. Winners of the best-of-three matches held the station until defeated and could re-enter as many times as they wished. The two players for each game with the longest winning streaks battled it out for $2,000 per tournament in the Finals on the
Fighting Games Main Stage.
Crowd shot from the MLG #gamerompfest
“The Summer Championship in Raleigh [was] sure to provide an exciting culmination to an amazing summer season, and we [were] honored to have our RL2450HT and GL2450HM in the middle of the action,” said Bob Wudeck, Director of Retail and e-Commerce at BenQ America Corp. “The fast response times of BenQ’s monitors result in high-action competition, while features such as the RL2450HT’s Black eQualizer help eSports athletes not just play the game, but conquer it. In addition, the incredibly low lag of the GL2450HM provides perfect timing in fighting and shooting games.”
Delivering a supreme RTS gaming experience, the RL2450HT was used for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and League of Legends PC games tournaments at the Summer Championship. The RL2450HT was engineered with input from the world-class StarCraft II professional gaming team, STARTALE, which is sponsored by BenQ. For top-level RTS gamers, the monitor features a 60-Hz refresh rate for smooth movement, an LED light engine for great color and low power consumption, and a 2-ms GtG response time with 12 million to 1 contrast ratio.
The RL Series RTS Mode maximizes StarCraft II visibility and optimizes color, while its Black eQualizer enables total visibility by allowing gamers to adjust the screen brightness without over-exposing white levels — revealing critical combat details with improved visibility in darkened areas. The RL Series Display Mode allows gamers to interchange between monitor screen sizes, while the Smart Scaling feature gives them the freedom to scale the screen manually to any custom size — from 17 to 24 inches — depending on their preferences. In addition, the unit’s adjustable height stand allows for optimal screen positioning.
The 24-inch-wide GL2450HM monitor is an ideal choice for console gaming platforms, featuring brilliant LED backlighting, a dynamic contrast ratio of 12 million to 1, and a 2-ms GtG response time that yields high dynamic videos without ghosting or other artifacts.
At a later MLG Summer Championship, console games Mortal Kombat and SoulCalibur V were played on the GL2450HM, in addition to Virtua Fighter 5 and Skullgirls in the Exhibition Tournaments sponsored by PlayStation.
Supporting competitive and competitive retro gaming, BenQ offered the monitors used in the tournament at special discount pricing available to all MLG tournament fans.
It’s almost impossible to play a video game anymore without having to be online. Even single player games on consoles like the Playstation 4, 5 or Xbox One often require you to be connected in order to receive updates or be a part of leaderboards.
The problem with this is that if you don’t have a strong internet connection, then you could be constantly disconnected from your game without meaning to. This can be especially problematic for games meant to be played online like Fortnite or League of Legends.
One minute you’re happily in game and the next you’re disconnected and you’ve lost the match. This can seriously affect your gameplay which is why it’s important that you’re paying more attention to the kind of internet you have as well as who is providing it.
Choose the Right Provider
People often think that as long as they spend the big bucks for a decent computer rig or for a next gen console that they’ll be able to play their games without interruption. In the process, many forget the importance of having a reliable internet connection with a decent amount of bandwidth as well as upload and download speeds.
If you’re looking for unlimited usage with great upload and download speed options, you should check out internet packages in Canada from Poynt 360 for the best deals. They offer FTTN (fiber to the node) as well as cable packages that are both affordable and ideal for gamers.
FTTN stands for fiber to the node (or neighbourhood) and is the term used to describe providing internet to homes using fiber optic lines as opposed to traditional copper wires. Broadband connection and other data services are delivered to a common network box (often referred to as a node), and from there these services are delivered to individual destinations like your home.
One disadvantage of FTTN is that it is not available yet in every neighbourhood, so you may not have this option to begin with. You will need to check with your preferred service provider first to see they have fiber optic wiring in your area.
If You Can’t Get FTTN
If you can’t get FTTN in your neighbourhood you should still be able to get an internet package with cable that works for you. Though it’s possible to experience slowdowns using cable internet, you won’t be likely to notice them, especially if you get packages with the right speeds.
For instance, if you’re a gamer who also likes to stream, check out the option for 75 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds. If you have a large family, consider going higher with your download speeds at 150 Mbps.
Flexible, Affordable Options
When it comes to choosing your internet provider you might be tempted to go with one of the big guys, but they rarely have your best interests at heart. Consider signing up with a third-party provider who can get you the best deals and who will help you choose the best package for all your gaming needs.
Much like movies, gaming as an industry has grown to be a robust machine churning out titles, both big and small, at an obliterative pace. Suffice it to say that it is impossible to try and play all games that release every year. Moreover, considering that the price of games has been on the rise for the past few years, partly due to increased production cost and partly due to inflation, it is impossible to purchase and play all games.
So, in order to not get blown away in the confusing hype created by reviewers, here’s what you should keep in mind about gaming reviews.
1. The problem of big titles:
The issue with game reviewers is that they mostly expend time and effort praising AAA titles that release every year instead of lesser known artistic or Indie games. Not everyone likes major titles with repetitive gameplay. You would rarely see any famous gamers play with Online casino, Karamba, an indie mobile game, or let’s say the games that aren’t don’t get into enough limelight. We’re talking about the games that are niche and aren’t very popular in the industry of gaming reviewers.
2. Appeals vary widely:
The issue with gaming in general is that it is almost impossible to please everyone. In terms of narratives and themes, games tend to include only a limited number in their arsenal. However, with time, the expectation from games increases. It isn’t rare for reviewers to expect deeper political or social commentary from games, after the success of titles like Detroit Become Human.
However, it is impossible for games, like Assassin’s Creed that seek to be historically accurate to both portray the times while tending to demands of politically correctness. Two distinct possibilities arise here: Either the game sticks to its roots, and builds a good gaming but gets scathing reviews for not doing enough or for being problematic. Or, it can fit political pandering in its theme and make itself a terrible game, but get hearty praise from reviewers. An example for this is Assassins Creed: Odyssey, for which Ubisoft got rid of all its Assassins’ roots and made it a messy poor quality RPG, that looks like a poorly made copy of Witcher 3.
3. Mismatch between target audience and reviewers:
A big issue where the premise of reviews falls flat is that hardcore gamers usually do not fit the target audience of reviews. Gamers can be broadly classified into hardcore or serious gamers and causal gamers. And while most games are made with the former in mind, game reviews are made keeping the latter in mind. That’s because game reviews too, are a market that needs to pander to an audience to sell itself. While most reviewers are knowledgeable and competent enough to make detailed reviews, most of their audience wouldn’t consume such reviews.
Batman: Arkham Knight
As sad as it is, most casual gamers just want to play a first person shooter for fun. They do not care about social commentary, or beautifully written characters or aptly composed music scores. When reviews are written keeping them in mind, blissfully average games like Call of Duty keep getting very high reviews. And while playing CoD is definitely fun, it fails to hold its own against impressive games like Witcher 3 or Batman: Arkham Knight.
4. The issue with influence:
A second issue with gaming reviews being a business is that these sites depend on developers for content for their channels. Reviewers that bring out reviews earlier obviously stand to gain since there is a flux of readers to their channels about the exciting new title, which earns them a lot of money. This in turn means review sites depend on developers to send them early and free copies of games for them to try out, and review. For every bad review they give, they turn off the developer from dealing with them in future, which in turn makes competing review channels benefit.
This creates a dangerous nexus between gaming review channels and developers. This in fact harms smaller developers more since they effectively make lesser games than bigger developers. Thus, an Electronics Arts, can utilize this nexus for their benefit much better than a CD: Projekt Red, although the latter is arguably a much better developer. And this means, very average EA games will get much better reviews than a fantastic game developed by CD:PR.
In Conclusion
However, as we know, making video games are one of the most elevated forms of contemporary human art. And art, by virtue of interpretation, is extremely subjective.
Thus, in an effort to pick and choose games that are worth our time and money, we obviously tend to look at gaming reviews. Not only do they offer a valuable insight into what each title is about, but they also explain important details like the brilliance of narratives, character development, gameplay mechanics, multiplayer experience, presence of inhibitive micro transactions, and tend to give an overall suggestion on whether or not they recommend the game.
Therefore, it is foolhardy to expect reviews to do a perfect job in terms of recommending games that you may like. For the Silo, Ritik Pandey.
