Consider These Hottest Fireplace Trends

Over the years, fireplaces have been a familiar feature in many homes, however until very recently, they have undergone very little change from the traditional hearth.

Creative Fireplace Designs, 35 Original, Innovative and Artistic Fireplaces

Fireplaces are becoming the design focus for many rooms in and outside the house and with new technological advances it’s now possible to do more with the fireplace than ever before.

“We’re seeing some very interesting home designs that incorporate fireplaces in many creative new ways,” said David Coulson, of Napoleon Fireplaces. “While the traditional hearth will be a mainstay for many homes, modern fireplaces with crisp lines and glass frames will continue to rise in popularity with new homes and redesigned rooms. That being said we’re seeing several new trends emerge this season that are really changing the way people are thinking about fireplaces.”

Coulson suggests keeping the following hot trends in mind when looking for a new fireplace.

Napoleon outdoor fireplace
Napoleon outdoor fireplace

.         Modern:  Look for clean, linear lines with less metal and more
glass. People want the full flame and don’t want black or chrome metal frames blocking the view or interfering with the lighting.

.         Gas: Gas fireplaces will continue to rise in popularity this season. The convenience of flicking a switch compared to collecting, piling and lighting firewood is quickly winning out. The younger generation of fireplace buyers want a quick lighting fireplace that is cleaner and easier to maintain.

.         Outdoors: 2026 will again be a big year for the outdoor fireplace as people create or expand on their backyard oasis. The idea of turning a backyard into another room of your house is fueling the outdoor fireplace trend and Napoleon has developed several new models to accommodate this demand.

.         Heat rises: Much like HD televisions, consumers are placing their fireplace inserts higher up on the wall. New technology allows for home
owners to insert enclosed gas fireplaces almost anywhere in the house and many people are taking inspiration from designers who are playing with the traditional ideas of where you find a fireplace.

.         Unlikely locations: Much like the migration of fireplaces up the wall, more fireplaces are being installed in unlikely rooms. For example,
Napoleon makes several models which are ideally suited for the kitchen or bathroom. These fireplaces however are typically used to decorate the room, not to provide a main source for heating.

In the end, every room is different so it’s important to find the right fireplace that fits.

New Foundry F12 Subwoofer Includes DSP Room Correction

PS Audio Introduces Its First-Ever Subwoofer: the Foundry F12 With DSP Room Correction

New subwoofer features a custom high-excursion woofer, built-in amplification and versatile DSP room correction technology–

Boulder, Colorado, February, 2026 – our friends at PS Audio have just the introduced the Foundry F12 subwoofer, the company’s first ever subwoofer.

The Foundry F12 is a ground-up design featuring a high-excursion 12-inch woofer, 1,000 watts of built-in amplification, and advanced room mode correction technology that works in conjunction with PS Audio’s new Foundry control app.

“Designer Chris Brunhaver and I have been working on an ultimate-quality subwoofer for a long time,” said Paul McGowan, PS Audio CEO. “The Foundry F12 is the logical complement to our Aspen series loudspeakers – or any high-quality speaker. With the Foundry F12, reference-quality bass is not limited by room size, placement constraints, or compromise, and the built-in DSP room correction makes it easy to achieve accurate in-room low-frequency response.”

The PS Audio Foundry F12’s driver is a completely new design. It has an extremely long throw – greater than 2-1/2 inches – with a large 10-inch graduated Nomex spider. The motor structure utilizes large magnets, dual shorting rings and other elements to maintain a constant magnetic field throughout the driver’s excursion. The driver employs a paper cone with a carbon fiber dust cap, for high stiffness, low mass, and internal damping.

Ultimate High Current Subwoofer

The Foundry F12 includes a built-in 1,000-watt-continuous high-current amplifier with a massive 1,800-watt power supply. The result is a driver that delivers clean, articulate bass to below 20 Hz, with a fast, accurate response even at high output levels.

The Foundry F12 can be thought of as not just a subwoofer, but a solution to the low-frequency response anomalies every room has. The F12 employs the new Foundry control app, a purpose-designed app for iOS and Android that enables easy setup right from the listening chair. The Foundry app compensates for a listening room’s peaks and dips, (areas of bass reinforcement and cancellation) where most room problems occur.

The user can adjust the Foundry app’s settings either manually or via an auto EQ function. Comprehensive control is provided of volume, crossover point, delay, and parametric EQ. To use the automatic EQ, no external measurement mic is required; the listener just has to point their phone from the listening position and the app does the rest.

If desired, the user can tweak a variety of settings including EQ, high- and low-pass filters, phase, and more, and create custom user presets – for example, one preset for music and another for movies, or a setting for late-night low-volume listening. In addition to remote operation, the Foundry F12 offers rear panel controls, and a comprehensive set of balanced, single-ended and speaker-level connection options.

As an option, a wireless transmitter module is available, to eliminate the need for connecting cables. The transmitter utilizes WiSA E 24/96 wireless technology for extremely low latency and exceptional fidelity, and is compatible with other WiSA devices. For larger rooms and systems, an optional stacking kit enables multiple Foundry F12 subwoofers to be securely connected together for increased output and headroom.

The PS Audio Foundry F12 subwoofer is currently available in satin black or satin white at a suggested US retail price of $2,749 usd/ $3,721 cad. The optional wireless transmitter is available at $199 usd/ $269 cad and the stacking kit for $99 usd/ $132 cad .

Spacewar! The First Videogame Demoed in 1961

Spacewar! the first digital video game first ran as a demo in 1961 on an DEC Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-1 (Programmed Data Processor-1) computer and holds a central place in the development of video games as a cultural form.

VideogamesAsArtPDP

Made In house

Spacewar! was created by a group of students and researchers (including Steve Russell) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1961, conceived of as a demonstration for the new Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-1 computer.

The completed game premiered at the 1962 Science Open House at MIT, and was later shared and modified at computer labs around the United States. This “computer toy” influenced untold technological advances and gave rise to the cultural phenomenon now known as video games.

Play an accurate online version of Spacewar! on a simulated PDP-1 here.

All the Basic Building Blocks Of Modern Videogames

Among other things, Spacewar! set the template for the game development industry and its relationship to technology, established shooting as a core game mechanic, and inspired space and science fiction themes for future games including the Atari classic Asteroids and many others. Spacewar! was even an early cartridge game ported to the Atari VCS / 2600 in 1978 and deserves extra consideration for being an important title for the collector- it was one of the first home adaptations of a computer game.

Pure Analog Excellence: AT-LP7X Turntable

Our friends at  Audio-Technica have just introduced the AT-LP7X fully manual belt-drive turntable — The AT-LP7X delivers sound that’s as clean and refined as its appearance. —

STOW, OH, January, 2026 — Audio-Technica is excited to announce the release of the AT-LP7X, blending analog excellence with style and versatility. While designing the AT-LP7X, Audio-Technica paid close attention to chassis geometry to ensure the platter, spindle and tonearm were optimally positioned for accurate, distortion-free tracking. This, along with the J-shaped aluminum tonearm with dual-axis gimbal with precision ball bearings, further enhances the tracking performance.

The turntable’s 20 mm acrylic platter is driven by an optical sensor-monitored motor that ensures a continuously accurate platter rotation speed of 33-1/3 or 45 RPM. The motor is mounted on vibration-dampening rubber bushings designed to decouple the motor from the plinth, minimizing the transmission of mechanical noise and oscillations. An external switching power supply isolates the AC-to-DC conversion to prevent it from adding any electrical interference, and the turntable’s spring-based, height-adjustable isolation feet offer excellent protection against external noise.

Additionally, the AT-LP7X features a dense MDF plinth to minimize unwanted resonance and vibration. The turntable has an elegant, matte black finish.

Equipped with an AT-LT10 headshell and black AT-VM95E cartridge with 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical stylus, the AT-LP7X provides excellent channel separation and low distortion for outstanding tonal quality. For easy customization, the stylus can be replaced or interchanged with other styli in the VM95 line, offering a wide array of options for every budget and application. An included MM/MC switch and subcounterweight add to the customization level, making this the perfect turntable for those interested in experimenting with alternate cartridges.

The AT-LP7X comes with a detachable RCA output cable (dual RCA male to dual RCA male with ground), 45 RPM adapter, and removable dust cover, and will be available for $999.00 usd / $1,375 cad MAP on www.audio-technica.com.

ENDLESS CHRISTMAS RERUNS SPURS DIGITAL BOARDGAME DOWNLOADS IN UK

RESEARCH SHOWS 50% OF CHRISTMAS TV SHOWS IN THE UK WILL BE REPEATS

Take note viewers of British television programming- Christmas Day will be the worst for TV repeats with 55% of programs having aired before. Years past? For example, a similar situation resulted back in Christmas 2020 seeing a massive 460% increase in downloads of Marmalade Game Studios games, which includes official versions of Monopoly, Taboo, Cluedo, Clue, Jumanji and The Game of Life. The studio believes that at least in part this trend was fueled by ‘boredom’ in watching Christmas TV reruns. The corresponding figure for 2019 was 54% with 2025 trending in the same direction.

Marmalade Game Studio

In addition, new analysis* from the UK’s leading digital board games publisher reveals 50% of the programs this Christmas on BBC 1, BBC2, ITV 1, Channel 4 and Channel 5 will be repeats. The channels will show 403 programs across Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and 202 will be repeats.
Marmalade Game Studio’s analysis reveals that 72% of the programs that will air on Channel 5 will be repeats, and the corresponding figures for Channel 4, ITV1, BBC2 and BBC1 will be 55%, 41%, 57% and 21% respectively.

Overall, Christmas Day will be the worst for repeats with 55% of programs having aired before, compared to 50% for Boxing Day and 46% for Christmas Eve.

Marmalade Game Studio’s analysis reveals that 52% of programs shown on the five channels across Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day in 2020 were repeats, and the corresponding figure for 2019 was 54%.

Michael Willis, co-CEO at Marmalade Game Studio, said: “Watching TV over Christmas as a family is one of the highlights of the festive season, but with so many repeats being aired, it can be easy to become bored. Playing board games can be a great way to tackle this and bring families together.
“We have recently introduced a new Bubble feature, which more than a million families have signed up to, helping people stay in touch by video chat, allowing gamers to add friends and family to group chats, start games from these, and video chat whilst playing.”

When Marmalade Game Studio researched during the height of the Covid pandemic found nearly six out of 10 adults (57%) expected to be playing a board game during the Christmas season with Monopoly or Scrabble the most likely to be played.

Average spending on a new board game will be around £22 ($40.47CAD based on exchange rate at time of posting), the study found, with 828,000 people expecting to spend £50 ($91.98 CAD) or more on board games for the festive period.
Digital gaming has surged in popularity and over the period of the lockdowns Marmalade Game Studio estimates downloads have increased 144% in total compared with the previous 18 months.

Marmalade Game Studio is the UK’s leading digital board game publisher, and it recently secured a £22.5 million ($41.39 million CAD) investment from private equity firm LDC to support recruitment and the development of new games, has seen revenues more than double in recent years.
Marmalade Game Studio, which has offices in London and Lisbon, has continued to boost staff numbers while its range of games which includes Monopoly and Cluedo has expanded from 3 to 10 titles with more planned.

Christmas Gift Not As Advertised? Leave A Review.

How Reviews Influence Consumer Culture

The internet and its vast adoption have now had a huge impact on our shopping and consumer habits. It provides more choice than ever before when it comes to shopping around. Here’s a boring but necessary example- If you’re going to get your car insured, there are many sites that directly compare providers of insurance so that you don’t have to.

There are also plenty of sites that specialize in allowing you and other consumers to leave honest reviews on products or services that are offered by businesses, no matter what country they’re in. In fact, the sole purpose of some of these websites is to help you, aid you in making informed decisions, and hold businesses to account when it comes to bad reviews to explain themselves and resolve their issues. I bet that there are many of you who have discovered that your highly anticipated Christmas present is ‘not as advertised’. Bummer. The best way of preventing this from happening to others is to leave an honest review.

A lot of choice out there

And if you’re looking to make a choice between one business and another, a review can have a huge sway in eventually helping you decide which is the best one to choose. A fine example is a website called casinos.com that allows users to leave reviews on both online casinos and on the top slot games. And in the casino industry, in particular, competition is so fierce amongst some of the top brands in the industry at the moment that having positive reviews can help them gain more players, so it’s essential they provide good service and an entertaining experience.

The consequences of negative reviews

Put yourself in a typical consumer’s shoes. If you go to a review website and see a raft of bad reviews for a particular store or a particular website, this immediately throws up warning flags. If a business has thousands of reviews left and there’s the odd low rating that can be looked past, but when you notice trends or the vast majority are negative reviews, you won’t consider joining that site. It’s like the internet’s version of word of mouth, and so it’s vitally important that online casinos and businesses in other industries ensure that they have support structures in place to help consumers and online users, rather than them resorting to leaving a bad review.

How many people will look online for a review?

To put into numbers just how influential reviews are, a recent study found that 93% of customers will look at an online review before going ahead and spending money online. That is an absolutely huge majority. And so, essentially, if you have shocking reviews for your business online, on average, about 93% of your potential customers are going to be able to see these negative reviews, and this will more than likely ensure that these are lost sales where they go to one of your competitors. A lot of the top eCommerce sites such as Amazon also allow customers to leave reviews on products following their purchase directly on the site so that users don’t have to go to other sources in order to discover other peoples feedback.

A digital form of word-of-mouth

A lot of our consumer behavior is influenced by what others think. Reviews are just the internet equivalent of a personal recommendation from a friend. You may have had it before where you’ve asked either on social media or directly to friends or family about a recommendation for a certain service, and you’ve gone ahead and chosen their recommendation due to your affiliation and pre-existing relationship with that particular person. And although you don’t know the people directly who leave reviews, there is no doubt that if there is a large quantity, it can certainly influence a purchasing decision.

Reviews of products

Although you’re looking for online reviews, they are only available on online websites. A lot of people will also share reviews in video format on places such as YouTube. This is popular amongst electronics such as smartphones and watches, and a common method as you probably already know is called unboxing, whereby they will show you the features of a certain product after unboxing it.

There are also a lot of blog websites where someone will blog about their experience or their personal views and opinions on a certain service, subject, or product. This is also a very popular resource for people to look at before potentially reaching a decision on whether to buy a product.

In Summary

From what we’ve discussed today, it’s abundantly clear that reviews can and do have a huge influence on our consumer culture and behavior. If you have been slighted by a gift that is not as advertised do us all a favor and leave a review. They help a lot in helping us make informed decisions as consumers prior to making a decision to purchase either a product or a service. For the Silo, Diane Hutton.

Put This Limited Edition Raketa Watch On Your Christmas List

Introducing the Raketa “BIG ZERO” Lebedev- Time for What Matters

The Raketa Watch Factory and the famous Russian designer Artemy Lebedev release together the Big Zero Lebedev, an edition limited to 300 models, inspired by the iconic Big Zero model. This collaboration marks the 30th anniversary of Artemy’s studio – Art Lebedev Studio.

Big Zero Lebedev is all about neat forms, monochrome black, and simplicity. But why these style and design choices? Today’s world is overwhelmed with details, events, and information. We need some visual anchors that structure our perception instead of adding up to this noise.

True to the strict minimalist design, oversized numerals, and the iconic large zero, Artemy Lebedev has added contemporary flair: a black-on-black scheme, matte convex markers and dial, matte hands, and a tinted back glass revealing the Studio’s logo on a black rotor.

For the first time, Raketa uses a rubber strap with customizable length to fit your wrist perfectly. For easy adjustment, a video tutorial by Artemy Lebedev is available via QR code. So, you will act a bit like a watchmaker when adjusting the strap!

The heart of the Big Zero Lebedev is a Russian self-winding movement, manufactured from A to Z at the Raketa Watch Factory, one of the few manufacturers worldwide that still produce their own in-house movements.

AT33xMONO/II – mono, 0.65 mil conical nude stylus, duralumin pipe cantilever, $449 usd/ $623 cad

All AT33x Series cartridges are all hand-crafted in Japan.

All feature Audio-Technica’s unique dual moving coil structure with independent left and right coils, which provides exceptional channel separation, imaging and tracking capability for the stereo models, and sound quality that is dynamic yet delicate and refined. The AT33xMONO/I and AT33xMONO/II are configured as a true mono design that is unaffected by any vertical noise components picked up from the record groove. (They are also ideal for mono playback on a stereo system.)

All models have threaded mounting holes for easier installation and feature composite cartridge bodies made of die-cast zinc, aluminum and high-rigidity polymer to ensure clear, detailed sound with freedom from unwanted resonances. Rigid, dense die-cast zinc is used for the cartridge base for additional resonance suppression and to add clarity to the bass and midrange.

Every cartridge in the series utilizes PCOCC (pure copper by Ohno continuous casting) and gold-plated cartridge pins to ensure maximum signal transmission and musical clarity. Depending on the model, AT33x Series cartridges employ either neodymium or samarium cobalt high-strength magnets for responsive, high-resolution vinyl playback. A newly-developed suspension and rubber damper design (with lower compliance than other Audio-Technica cartridges) enable every AT33x model to be used with a variety of tonearms.

All are available now. For the Silo, Jarrod Barker.

The Audience Bellare Loudspeaker Is Extraordinary

San Marcos, California, October, 2025 – In one of the most significant product introductions in the company’s history, Audience will debut its extraordinary Bellare loudspeaker at two US events: T.H.E. Show New York and Capital Audiofest 2025. As stunning in appearance as it is to listen to, the new Bellare full-range speaker incorporates a number of proprietary technologies including the company’s full-range driver approach to deliver a never-before-achievable level of musical realism.

The Bellare (Italian/Latin for “beautiful”) will be featured at T.H.E. Show New York 2025 at the Hilton Hasbrouck Heights/Meadowlands, Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey (October 24 – 26, 2025), and at Capital Audiofest at the Hilton Hotel Rockville, Rockville, Maryland (November 14 – 16, 2025). It will be demonstrated as part of a complete high-end system including an all-new Audience equipment rack, and Audience cables and power conditioners (see complete equipment list at the end of this press release).

No need for the usual crossover requirement

At the heart of Bellare’s extraordinary performance is its use of multiple identical 3-inch wideband high-resolution drivers that cover the entire frequency spectrum from 120 Hz through the midrange and treble – eliminating the need for a crossover or different types of drivers for the midrange and high frequencies. This results in remarkable sonic coherence, tonal purity, and imaging, with excellent dispersion. There are no phase anomalies, discontinuities in frequency range, or disruptive changes in radiation pattern.

Bass Is Handled Separately

The bass below 120 Hz is handled by Bellare’s built-in 300-watt active bass module with DSP that offers remote control of its volume, and automatic room correction. The inclusion of this built-in bass unit enables Bellare to be used with even lower-powered amplifiers such as Class A or single-ended tube amplifiers, since they are only driving the midrange and high frequencies.

The result is a loudspeaker that offers a seamless, natural musical presentation with remarkable spaciousness, presence, dynamic impact and tonal truthfulness. The Bellare achieves a level of sonic realism undreamed of until now. It is one of the finest loudspeakers ever produced by Audience – or anyone.

The Audience Bellare loudspeaker will be available in March 2026 at a suggested US retail price of $36,000 per pair/ $50,374 CAD (at today’s conversion rate).

Key Audience Bellare Loudspeaker Features:

  • Identical 3-inch drivers provide seamless performance above 120 Hz
  • Crossover-less design (above 120 Hz) preserves coherence, phase integrity, tonal purity and an ideal radiation pattern
  • Built-in 300-watt bass module powers the woofer and mid-woofer
  • DSP offers remote control of its volume, and active room correction
  • Frequency response: -3 dB at 28 Hz and 22 kHz
  • 105 dB continuous output without driver compression
  • Smooth impedance with minimal phase shift for effortless amplifier control

Never Forget The Lure Of Pinball

John and his machine

I’ll never forget the first time.

I was 7 years old in the mid-70’s, and the parents were carting myself and a few rep-team baseball buddies home from a game. They decided to stop at an old bowling alley in Burford, Ontario  to get a bite to eat. I don’t remember what I ate, but what I’ll never forget was discovering that large cabinet standing on four metal peg-legs in the corner of the alley. Jutting up from the back was a headboard depicting brilliantly lit cartoon-like women with implausible breasts, silently calling out to me to come closer. My one baseball bud knew what it was all about. “Hey, do you want to play a game?” I most certainly did want to play a game. He dropped a quarter in the machine, pushed the credit button and the machine chugged to life. I’ll never forget my first game of pinball.

That moment started a lifetime love for me.

The number of hours spent chasing the silver ball in arcades, bowling alleys, laundromats and pizza parlours may have cost me a few grade points in school, but I developed into a very skillful player, winning cash prizes, a television, and my greatest tournament victory: a classic pinball machine which I now get to play at home. I even travelled to The World Pinball Championships in Pittsburgh to test my flipper prowess against the best, and found out I still had skills that I needed to work on!

Pinball kept pleasure and solace at never more than 25 cents away.

Nothing could clear my head and put me in the moment like releasing the plunger and sending that silver sphere jetting onto the playfield. What was going to happen this time? The nudge of the machine was its very own dance; enough pushing to alter the path of the ball, yet not so much that you might incur a disqualifying “tilt.” The immense satisfaction of a well-targeted flipper shot hitting the mark, the helpless feeling of a ball heading down the middle with maddening precision. The shrill clang of the bells, the churning of the scoring reels on the way to a free game. Man, there was nothing else like it. For the Silo, John McIntosh.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be a modern masterpiece.

E.1027
Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea
Streaming & DVD Launch September 9, 2025!
Coming to Amazon, Apple & Kanopy

In 1929, Irish designer Eileen Gray created E.1027 on the sun-soaked Côte d’Azur – a bold and hidden gem of avant-garde architecture. This striking house was meant to be a personal refuge.

But when the legendary architect Le Corbusier stumbled upon it, fascination turned to obsession. He covered its walls with his murals, completely disregarding Gray’s wishes and her vision. His defiant act ignited a battle for creative control, with Gray demanding restitution for the destruction of her work. He ignored her wishes and instead built his famous Cabanon house directly behind E.1027.

E.1027 – Eileen Gray and the House By the Sea is an unusual hybrid docu-fiction film that tells a story about the power of one woman’s creative expression and a man’s desire to control it.
“A unique and uniquely satisfying experience…a bold movie because it takes a deep dive on characters and a house that may not widely known, at least for American audiences. There is nothing quite like it.”
– John Soltes, Hollywood Soapbox
A story of passion, craft, and betrayal…aesthetically beautiful and a great summer watch.” – Fiona Rae, Film Threat
“Shot on location at E.1027, this feature-documentary hybrid matches the sleekness of its setting – its serenity, its surface poetry, its fragments of grace.” – Barlo Perry, ParisLA
“Eileen Gray was a creative genius and the first woman to conquer the world of architecture at a time when men controlled it all. This new film reflects on Gray’s impressive career and her stunning modernist house on the Cote d’Azur.” – Meredith Taylor, Finito World

“The directors put architecture in dialogue with cinema in order to bring to life the sensibility of a woman who was a visionary yet is too rarely celebrated. Elegant and well thought-out, the film uses the cinematic medium to enrich a discourse.” – Giorgia Del Don, Cineuropa

“Based on the memoirs of Eileen Gray, this meticulously crafted docu-drama, where poetry slips into frames, angles and tones, almost feels like a hallucination.” – Maroussia Dubreuil, Le Monde

Casino Bonuses and Promotions – How to Use Them Properly and What to Watch Out For

Online casinos actively use bonuses and promotions to attract and retain players. For both beginners and experienced users, understanding how these offers work is important not only to increase the chances of winning but also to ensure safe and controlled gameplay. In this article, we will explore the types of bonuses, how to use them effectively, and what to pay attention to.

Types of Bonuses in Online Casinos

Modern online platforms offer a wide range of casino bonuses. The main types include:

  • Welcome bonuses – given to new players upon registration and first deposit.
  • Free spins – free spins on online slots, often included in welcome or seasonal promotions.
  • Cashback – a partial return of lost funds over a certain period.
  • Loyalty programs – points awarded for activity, which can be exchanged for bonuses or gifts.

Every bonus comes with wagering requirements, expiration dates, and bet limits. Ignoring these rules can nullify the value of the offer.

How to Use Bonuses Effectively

To get the most out of bonuses, follow a few simple guidelines:

  1. Read the terms carefully – before activating a bonus, pay close attention to the rules, especially wagering requirements and game restrictions.
  2. Plan your budget – use bonuses as an additional resource without exceeding your personal betting limits.
  3. Combine with strategies – bonuses can be applied to online slots and table games, considering your chosen betting strategy.

For example, platforms like Martin Casino offer free spins and cashback systems with clear terms, helping both beginners and experienced players use bonuses safely and efficiently.

What to Watch for When Choosing a Bonus

Not all offers are equally profitable. When selecting a promotion, consider:

  • Bonus size – very large bonuses may come with complex wagering requirements.
  • Expiration date – always check how much time you have to meet the conditions.
  • Game restrictions – some bonuses apply only to specific online slots or types of bets.
  • Withdrawal conditions – make sure the wagering requirements are realistic and achievable.

Common Mistakes When Using Bonuses

Beginners often make typical mistakes, such as:

  • Activating all bonuses at once and losing control over their bankroll.
  • Not reading the terms and not knowing how to meet the wagering requirements.
  • Trying to use bonuses for “quick profit,” forgetting that gambling should be entertainment, not a guaranteed income source.

A responsible approach, budget and time management help players enjoy bonuses while minimizing risks.

The Future of Casino Bonuses and Promotions

With technological advancement, bonus offers are becoming more personalized. Artificial intelligence analyzes player behavior and suggests the most suitable promotions. Mobile casino bonuses and crypto-platform promotions are also gaining popularity, allowing fast and secure transactions.

Online casinos continue to use bonuses as a tool to increase player engagement. However, the key to successful play is understanding the rules, having a conscious approach, and managing your bankroll wisely.

FAQ

What is wagering a bonus? It is a condition requiring a certain number of bets before bonus funds can be withdrawn.

Can I use multiple bonuses at the same time? Usually not – most platforms allow only one bonus to be activated at a time to prevent abuse.

Which bonuses are best for beginners?Welcome bonuses and free spins are ideal because they let players try games without significant investments.

Can a bonus be lost? Yes, if wagering requirements are not met or betting limits are exceeded. How to choose a profitable bonus? Look at the size, expiration date, game restrictions, and realism of the wagering requirements.

Winning Wines For Backyard Summer Barbecues

Summertime is about many things: outdoor activities, music festivals, sports, holidays, celebrations, and gatherings. For foodies, summer signals the start of barbecue season. It’s nothing fancy, just friends and family gathering in the backyard or on the rooftop, sharing delicious food and memorable moments. Like any good gathering, a barbecue isn’t complete without the perfect drinks. While cold beer is a common choice, wine lovers may ask: what’s the best wine for a summer barbecue?

https://luxelistreviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/moldova-4353224_1280-pixabay.jpg

Below wine consultant Sylvia Ba, a vinicultural expert with the “VinoVoss” AI Sommelier wine search engine and recommendation system developed by BetterAI, gives guidance:

What Sommeliers Would Recommend

Whether you are hosting a barbecue party or attending one but wonder what wine to serve or bring, both traditional human sommeliers and innovative AI sommeliers like VinoVoss generally recommend bold reds for barbecue. Grenache, Syrah, and GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blends) are at the top of the list for pairing with barbecue foods. The rich flavors of charred meat, combined with spices, harmonize beautifully with fruity, round red wines that have spicy, smoky, or oaky notes. Zinfandel and Primitivo pair wonderfully with caramelized foods, while other bold reds like Malbec, oaked Tempranillo, or a Bordeaux blend are also popular choices.

Summer Wine and Barbecue: An Unlikely Pair?

From a food and wine pairing perspective, bold reds are indeed suitable for barbecue. However, bold reds can taste heavy and often have high alcohol content, which might not be the best fit for hot summer days. This is why many people opt for cold beer instead. In summer, we crave refreshing white wines to cool us down, but does that mean summer wines and barbecue are incompatible? The answer is no. There are plenty of summer wines that pair perfectly with barbecue.

Pork-based barbecue favorites like sausages and short ribs, seasoned with flavorful spices, not only pair well with red wines like Grenache, Syrah, or Zinfandel but also shine with high-acidity white wines like Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. The acidity cuts through the grease and adds freshness. Riesling is known to complement savory sauces, while Grüner Veltliner, with its herbaceous, white pepper notes, is perfect for sausages. In their home countries, Riesling and Grüner Veltliner are preferred wines for pork-based German and Austrian cuisine. Additionally, these high-acidity white wines, by nature, pair well with vegetables.

All-Rounder Barbecue Wines

If you’re concerned about going to extremes between bold reds and refreshing whites, don’t worry. There are versatile barbecue wines for your summer gatherings. Barbecue covers a range of foods from vegetables to mushrooms, from fish to meat skewers, so it’s ideal to have a master solution.

Light-Bodied, Chillable Reds

If bold reds feel too heavy, light-bodied red wines are perfect summer reds. Wines like Gamay, certain Pinot Noirs, Loire Valley Cabernet Franc, Frappato, Schiava, and many carbonic or semi-carbonic maceration reds are excellent choices. They have enough body to pair with meat but the fruit-forward character makes them food-friendly, so they won’t overpower vegetables or grilled fish. Most importantly, they are best enjoyed slightly chilled, bringing freshness to a hot summer afternoon.

Orange Wine

Some say orange wine is a white wine that tastes like red. It combines the vibrant acidity and refreshing character of white wines with the depth and structure of red. Orange wine is an all-rounder for food pairing, matching perfectly with well-seasoned, spicy foods, grilled asparagus, or sausages.

Pet Nat

For some, bubbles and barbecue are the ultimate pairing. Champagne and other traditional method sparkling wines are good choices, but Pet Nat (pétillant naturel) is even better. Its refreshing acidity and bubbles enhance the summer vibe, and its yeasty flavors and slight residual sugar add body, making it suitable for a variety of foods and barbecue seasonings. Plus, Pet Nat is ideal for casual, fun moments with friends. It’s an approachable wine to enjoy without giving it too much thought.

Feizal Satchu Wins Historic Moneymaker Tour Stop at Playground Poker Club in Canada

Photo Credit: Moneymaker Tour on Instagram

For the first time in its young but impactful history, the Moneymaker Tour crossed into Canadian territory, and it did so in style.

Last May, poker fans flooded Playground Poker Club just outside Montreal, Quebec, for a highly anticipated series backed by a whopping CAD $1 million guarantee. As one of the fastest-growing live tournament series in North America, the Moneymaker Tour, founded in 2023 by 2003 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Champion Chris Moneymaker and Executive Manager Tony Burns, had already lit up the US poker scene with events in Cincinnati, Houston, Florida, and Maryland.

WSOP Champion Chris Moneymaker

After a breakout 2024 that saw the tour expand to 10 US locations and its first international stop in Aruba, its Canadian debut marked a historic step in the tour’s global expansion.

The Playground stop quickly became a magnet for the country’s poker elite, recreational grinders, and railbirds alike. The $1,150 buy-in Moneymaker Main Event attracted an enormous field, smashing the CAD $500,000 guarantee and reinforcing Canada’s hunger for high-level live poker. As poker fans cheered on, the tournament transformed from a typical live event into a landmark moment for the Canadian poker community. And when the final hand was dealt, Toronto local Feizal Satchu hoisted the Moneymaker Trophy and took home a life-changing $150,000 payday, forever etching his name into the tour’s history.

Feizal Satchu’s Breakout Victory at Playground and What’s Next in Aruba

Feizal Satchu’s win was a defining moment in a career that had, until now, been largely under the radar. A regular on the Canadian poker circuit, Satchu had cashed in several events in the past, but nothing on this scale. Overcoming a talented field of seasoned pros and ambitious up-and-comers, he maintained composure throughout a rollercoaster final table to secure his first Moneymaker Trophy and his biggest career win to date.

As the confetti settled at the Playground, the buzz turned to what’s next for the Moneymaker Tour. Fortunately for fans and players, the momentum isn’t slowing down. From September 18 to 28, the tour heads back to paradise for its second-ever Aruba stop, a sun-soaked series that’s already being billed as one of the hottest poker events of the fall. The crown jewel of the Aruba schedule is the $300,000 guaranteed Main Event, with a $1,700 buy-in and an experience unlike any other.

Thanks to Chris Moneymaker’s ongoing partnership with Americas Cardroom, players worldwide can qualify for Aruba through online satellites that offer full poker vacation packages. These packages include airfare, hotel accommodations, and Main Event entry, bringing the dream of mixing poker with palm trees to life for a fraction of the cost. “We’re all about making poker fun and accessible,” Moneymaker said. “Whether you’re chasing the title or just chasing the sun, this is your shot.” With Feizal Satchu’s dramatic win in Montreal now in the books, all eyes are turning to Aruba to see who will be the next breakout star. As the tour builds momentum internationally, it’s clear that the Moneymaker Tour is not just about the cards but about creating unforgettable stories.

Americas Cardroom’s Crypto-Friendly Platform Powers the Moneymaker Dream

At the heart of the Moneymaker Tour’s explosive growth is its partnership with online poker powerhouse Americas Cardroom. More than just a sponsor, US online poker site Americas Cardroom is the engine behind the tour’s global accessibility. By offering a wide range of online satellites (many of which start at micro-stakes), Americas Cardroom helps everyday players turn their dollars into dream live poker experiences. For Canadians eager to compete on the tour, the platform provides a vital entry point without needing to travel or bankroll large buy-ins.

One of the key reasons for Americas Cardroom’s enduring success with its player base is its innovative embrace of cryptocurrency and e-wallets. Players can deposit and withdraw funds using Bitcoin and other popular cryptocurrencies, offering them quick, secure, and low-fee transactions. This forward-thinking approach resonates particularly well with millennial and Gen Z players, who value both speed and privacy, as discussed by Elizabeth Kerr in a previous article. Crypto deposits on Americas Cardroom often process in minutes, which is a stark contrast to the delays and fees associated with traditional banking methods.

As the gaming industry shifts toward digital-first solutions, Americas Cardroom has positioned itself ahead of the curve. Alongside its crypto integrations, the platform also supports a variety of e-wallets, allowing users to manage multi-currency accounts and enjoy seamless transactions across borders. In a market where convenience and reliability are king, Americas Cardroom delivers both, and that synergy with the Moneymaker Tour’s ethos of accessibility and excitement is no coincidence. Ultimately, this partnership is creating a feedback loop that benefits everyone: online players qualify for real-world events, local legends like Feizal Satchu emerge on live stages, and fans get to witness poker’s next great stories unfold. Whether you’re grinding online in Toronto, chasing the sun in Aruba, or watching from the rail, the Moneymaker Tour powered by Americas Cardroom delivers the kind of poker that dreams are made of.

Conclusion

Feizal Satchu’s landmark victory at Playground not only secured him a place in Canadian poker history but also signaled the growing relevance of the Moneymaker Tour beyond US borders. With its perfect blend of big guarantees, accessible buy-ins, and a strong online partnership with Americas Cardroom, the tour is redefining what it means to go from ordinary to extraordinary in poker. As the action shifts to Aruba, the next Feizal Satchu could be just one satellite away.

It’s Still The Greatest Videogame Battle For The Donkey Kong Crown

It may be hard for you to believe, but a very passionate group of game players are still contesting video game records, new and old, and vying to become champion in their particular game of skill in  order to be immortalized in the on-line video game record bible “Twin Galaxies”.

Go check it out.

Maybe it’s time to limber up those fingers and go for the record. Every great wrestling match is predicated on a simple concept that holds for the ages: A ‘babyface’ (good guy’) with a seemingly overwhelming challenge vs. a ‘heel’ (bad guy), who has the cards stacked, usually unfairly,  in his favor.  As humans, we have an innate need to create an emotional investment in our favorite character, which in turn makes the outcome of the contest be something that we care about seeing.

That tried and true formula is fully rendered in a great documentary that I regularly watch  called  “The King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters”.  Instead of wrestlers though, we’re dealing with elite-level, arcade-version Donkey Kong players facing off for the world record.  As well, and unlike a wrestling match, our outcome is not predetermined and this reality adds oh-so deliciously to the drama as it unfolds.

Now, bring in the chief combatants in our story: social pushover Steve Wiebe, a stuck in second place, life-long loser that just can’t seem to get a break in life vs. chicken-wing sauce kingpin Billy Mitchell; he of the hypnotizing mullet and Charlie Sheen-type zeal.

Here we’ve got classic good guy vs. bad guy at its finest!

Watch how Wiebe finds great difficulty becoming accepted into the ranks of high level players even though his skill and scores are right up there with the best of the best.  Billy Mitchell and his team of disciples manage to cheapen and disrespect Wiebe throughout, holding him back, and in turn making the viewer desperate for a little ass-kicking payback.  Can Wiebe come through?  The answer will surprise you.  The climax is better than any made for Hollywood movie, and will keep you on the edge of your seats.

It doesn’t matter if you like video games or not, the emotional pull of this story cannot be denied, and I guarantee that you will dig it.  “King of Kong” gets my five silo rating.  There’s the full movie up above but the DVD has some great extras that get right to the root of some true video game nerd-dom. For the Silo, John McIntosh.

Why Canadian Players Prefer Legzo Casino

It doesn’t take long to see why Legzo Casino has earned a loyal following in Canada. With native CAD support, locally trusted payment systems, and a game library tailored to experienced and casual players alike, it strikes the right balance between innovation and dependability. Players report high levels of trust and platform stability, paired with bonuses that actually make sense. From responsive customer service to seamless mobile access, this casino builds confidence from the first login.

Advantages of Legzo Casino for Canadian Users

Few casinos are as clearly designed with Canadians in mind. You won’t find currency conversion traps or confusing T&C wording here. It’s clean, direct, and localized. That already places Legzo Casino in Canada ahead of the pack, especially for users seeking stress-free onboarding and banking. The site reflects market expectations without overengineering the user experience.

Reliable Deposit and Withdrawal Channels

Transactions through Interac and e-Transfer are near-instant, and verification isn’t a bureaucratic swamp. The payment flow is smooth — not flawless — but efficient enough to compete with major brands in the region. Players don’t spend time guessing if their withdrawal is “stuck.” That’s rare. Here are the most trusted channels:

  • Interac Online
  • iDebit and InstaDebit
  • Visa and Mastercard (CAD-only)

CAD Support Without Hidden Charges

Currency clarity matters. Unlike some offshore sites, this one doesn’t quietly shift CAD into USD mid-transaction. Payouts match the deposit currency, without exchange-rate surprises. That keeps bankroll management predictable and transparent.

What Separates Legzo Casino From Other Platforms

It’s not just flashy games and bonus banners. There’s consistent backend performance and a curated software lineup from heavyweight developers. Veterans will notice low latency on live tables and faster reel rendering on slot rounds. Most who play Legzo Casino find the gameplay snappy — and the fairness ratings verifiable. That’s important in a competitive sector like Canada’s.

Game Providers That Define Quality

Rather than flood users with obscure titles, the selection here sticks with proven giants. That means stable RTP, recognizable volatility patterns, and cross-platform support. Expect Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, and Evolution Gaming leading the catalogue.

  1. Slot machines with certified high RTP values
  2. Live casino studios optimized for mobile
  3. Crypto-friendly table games for advanced players

Loyalty That Actually Rewards

The welcome bonus won’t change your life — but the cashback system might. Long-term play is incentivized through realistic milestones. Users climbing the VIP ladder don’t feel punished for a bad week. That’s rare, and it works. The program doesn’t just promise perks — it delivers them.

Customer Care and Data Integrity

It’s not perfect, but support agents are fast and direct. No frustrating chatbot loops. The SSL encryption is standard 256-bit, and you’ll see two-factor authentication pushed early. Frequent login Legzo Casino users have extra fraud-detection layers. It’s reassuring, even for crypto gamblers.

Player Insights and Real Gameplay Impressions

Forums and Reddit threads don’t lie — the buzz is mostly positive. Canadian players highlight the smooth banking and reliability of game servers. During testing, we noticed one glitch in the slot loader — minor, fixed quickly. Beyond that? No crashes, no lag, no excuse to leave. The rhythm of the site feels built for real use, not just show. Operation April Showers- Introducing Weather Resistant Kommando Notebooks

Our usual milsurp article is a bit different this time around- a little less about gear in the typical sense and more about the introduction of a side project our friends at kommandostore.com have been working on for months: The long-awaited return of EDC “Range Notes”, now better than ever in any weather. It might be nearing the end of April but let’s face it rainy weather never really goes away and if you are planning on an outdoor adventure the odds are you will need to plan for the possibility of getting wet.

Why this makes sense

Maybe you are a writer or a journaling die hard or the sort of person that likes to jot things down while they are outside. Perhaps the elements stir something and help fuel your creativity. I get it. There may be waterproof smartphone screens out there but nothing beats the mind-thought-write -it-down connection between good old fashioned paper and pencil (or pen).

KommandoNotes V2 have arrived!

Do you need to write in the rain? Or when you’re covered in warm, viscous liquids, preferably non-human in origin? Look no further than KommandoNotes waterproof range notes! Seriously, DON’T KEEP LOOKING. With ten times the autism and twice the schizo-posting capacity (double the pages!) of comparable field notes, you can record far more information than anyone needed or wanted no matter where you go, and it’ll survive the sweaty, unventilated confines of your flecktarn (check out my quick review of one of my favs here)parka pocket.

The binding is a heavy-duty spiral that lets pages flip easily, even with gloves on, and the cover is a thick, weather-resistant plastic printed with our sharply honed autism. Each notebook measures 4.75″ x 7″, with gridded pages for precision mapping or quick notes. This lightweight notebook is light enough to toss in your pack and sturdy enough to take endless beatings. Whether you’re scoping out land to squat or tracking recalcitrant livestock, KommandoNotes keep your data dry and legible (if you write legibly–that’s really on you).

Specs

Weather-resistant coated paper with plastic “pretty much everything-proof” cover

Are Celebrity Wines Really Worth The Hype?

From the rolling vineyards of Provence to the luxury Champagne houses of France, celebrities are turning their star power into wine brands. But do these bottles offer more than just a famous name on the label?

Whether it’s Brad Pitt’s critically acclaimed Château Miraval rosé or Jay-Z’s ultra-premium Ace of Spades Champagne, the world of celebrity-backed wines is booming. Some are passion projects backed by top-tier winemakers, while others are little more than expensive marketing plays. Below, vinicultural expert Peter Douglas Provides a break down a few top celebrity wines.

celebpng.png

Wines and celebrities are an iconic match.

Both evoke a sense of lifestyle, luxury, and aspiration. So, it’s no surprise that some celebrities have ventured into the wine business, adding another income stream and supporting their brand image. Celebrity wines, like their owners, come in various styles. Some hip-hop artists favor Champagne, while others opt for rosé or non-alcoholic options.

Even if a celebrity isn’t a wine connoisseur themselves, aligning with a quality product enhances their personal brand. It sends a message that they have discerning taste, appreciate the finer things, and are willing to put their name behind something they believe in (or at least want you to think they believe in!).

Regardless of their involvement, the perception of quality is crucial. No celebrity wants to be associated with a wine considered cheap or poorly made. It could damage their reputation and make the whole venture backfire.

1. Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie – Château Miraval (Provence, France)

When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie bought Château Miraval in 2011, it wasn’t just another celebrity purchase. Partnering with the quality-driven Perrin family, they released their first vintage in 2013, making waves in the rosé world.

Even after their war of the roses, Miraval remains a top-selling rosé. And for good reason.

It’s a classic Provence style: dry, medium-bodied, with bright acidity. Think fresh red cherries, ripe raspberries, and a touch of wild herbs. It’s crisp, refreshing, and has a lingering finish.

Is it worth the hype? Absolutely.

2. Francis Ford Coppola – Coppola Winery (California, USA)

Before celebrity wines were a thing, there was Francis Ford Coppola.
The legendary director of The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and The Conversation wasn’t just making cinematic masterpieces; he was quietly pioneering a wine empire, starting with vineyard purchases in the 1970s.

Coppola’s wine ventures are twofold: his namesake brand and the historic Inglenook estate in Napa Valley. While he sold the Francis Ford Coppola winery to Delicato Family Wines in 2021, Inglenook, a true Napa Valley icon, remains under his ownership.

The most important brands are:

Francis Ford Coppola Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
The flagship from his Sonoma winery, known for its rich flavors and elegant structure. This is the wine for a special occasion, or, you know, just a Tuesday night when you feel like channeling your inner Vito Corleone.

Director’s Cut
This series takes a clever approach, linking each wine to a different aspect of filmmaking. It’s a fun concept and an excellent quality wine.

Inglenook Rubicon
Inglenook is one of Napa’s “grand wine estates,” and Rubicon is its crown jewel. This is a highly sought-after, exceptional wine that commands respect (and a higher price tag). If you want to experience Napa Valley at its finest, this is a must-try.

Whether you’re a film buff, a wine aficionado, or just curious, Coppola’s wines are definitely worth a try. They are positioned in the premium section, but the extra cost is worth a shot! After all, it’s an offer you can’t refuse.

3. Post Malone – Maison No. 9 (Provence, France)

From hip-hop stages to the rolling hills of Provence, Post Malone has made a surprising, yet somehow fitting, foray into the wine world. The American rapper, producer, guitarist, and purveyor of distinctive face tattoos launched his rosé brand, Maison No. 9..

More than just a celebrity endorsement, Maison No. 9 is a genuine expression of Post Malone’s passion for wine and his vision for a rosé he truly enjoys. The name, a reference to the Nine of Swords tarot card, lends the brand a touch of mystique.||

Produced in partnership with Estandon Vignerons, Maison No. 9 comes in a distinctive bottle and expresses the classic pale salmon pink hue typical of Provençal rosés.

On the nose, it’s a bouquet of inviting aromas: think fresh strawberries and raspberries mingling with delicate white floral notes and a whisper of citrus. The palate is dry and refreshing, with a vibrant acidity that keeps things lively. Flavors of ripe strawberry and watermelon dance on the tongue, complemented by a subtle citrusy edge.

Maison No. 9 hits the spot for those who appreciate a refreshing rosé and enjoy the energy of Post Malone’s music. It’s a well-made wine that shows he’s got more than just “Circles” in his repertoire.||

4. Jay-Z – Armand de Brignac (Champagne, France)

A gold bottle, the iconic Ace of Spades logo, and a price tag that raises eyebrows: Armand de Brignac, or “Ace of Spades” as it’s more commonly known, is Jay-Z’s foray into the world of luxury Champagne. Launched in partnership with the Champagne house Terroirs des Maison, the brand was conceived as a symbol of opulence, a statement piece as much as a drink.

The blend itself is a multi-vintage cuvée, typically composed of about 40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, and 20% Pinot Meunier. In the glass, it shimmers with a luminous pale gold hue, releasing a complex bouquet of ripe orchard fruits, bright citrus zest, and delicate notes of brioche. The palate is both creamy and vibrant, revealing layers of golden apple and juicy peach, with a subtle hint of toasted almond. An elegant mousse (the delicate bubbles) underscores the experience, leading to a persistent finish with a touch of minerality.

Jay-Z’s commitment to the brand is clear. In 2014, he acquired full ownership, solidifying his dedication. Over the years, Ace of Spades has become a champagne of the elite in nightclubs and high-end events, cementing its status as a prestige Champagne. This hard work culminated in 2021 when the luxury conglomerate Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH) purchased a 50% stake in the brand, officially placing it among the titans of Champagne, alongside names like Dom Pérignon and Krug.

Ace of Spades is more than just about the bling, as it’s an excellent-quality Champagne. Jay-Z has transformed from a successful musician to a pioneer in the wine industry. He’s undeniably achieved “Empire State of Mind” status and pioneered the Champagne category.

5. Thomas Anders – Modern Talking (Rheinhessen, Germany)

From the synth-driven sounds of 80s pop to the quiet vineyards of Rheinhessen, Thomas Anders of Modern Talking has embarked on a new venture. The “Titans of Pop,” known for hits like “You’re My Heart, You’re My Soul,” have traded the stage for the cellar, with Anders partnering with the St. Antony winery.

This collaboration, based near his hometown, reflects his passion for wine. Since 2022, they’ve produced the “Anders Grauburgunder” (Pinot Gris) and expanded into sparkling and rosé wines. As Anders himself puts it, “For me, wine is more than just a drink…It’s the same with music.” However, these wines are only available through their website in select markets.

6. Kylie Minogue – Kylie Minogue Wines (Various regions)

Like a “Timebomb,” Kylie Minogue exploded onto the wine scene in 2020, partnering with Benchmark Drinks. With a career spanning decades, Kylie Minogue has cemented her status as a global pop icon.

From her early days on the Australian soap opera Neighbours to her chart-topping hits like “I Should Be So Lucky,” “Spinning Around,” and “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” Kylie has consistently reinvented herself, captivating audiences worldwide. Now, she’s bringing that same energy and style to the world of wine with her self-titled brand, which includes:

Prosecco Rosé
This fancy bottle, adorned with Kylie’s signature, is a fruit-driven, light, and elegant sparkling wine. The Australian singer brings her musical flair to life through this bubbly sensation.

Kylie Minogue No Alcohol Sparkling Rosé
A refreshing and finely balanced non-alcoholic sparkling rosé with elegant hints of strawberries. Perfect for those who want to “Spin Around” without the hangover.

And many more! Kylie’s wine offerings are constantly expanding, including Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, and other varietals and regions.

Kylie Minogue Wines has swiftly established itself as a serious and stylish brand dedicated to producing excellent wines. Her expanding portfolio offers numerous award winners, solidifying Kylie’s presence as a noteworthy figure in the wine and music industry. This is a brand producing excellent wines and definitely one to watch closely.

So are celebrity wines worth the hype?

Yes, these celebrity wine brands are great gifts and often deliver on quality. You pay a premium, but you get a taste of a lifestyle.

The Growth of Online Casinos in Canada and What You Need to Know

The gambling industry in Canada has changed a lot over the years. While land-based casinos remain popular, online platforms have opened up new opportunities for players who prefer the convenience of playing from home. With better internet access, secure payment methods, and a wider variety of games, more Canadians are choosing online casinos over traditional ones.

Online casinos allow players to enjoy everything from classic slot machines to live dealer games, making them a preferred choice for those looking for excitement without visiting a physical casino. Many platforms are now licensed and regulated to ensure safe and fair play. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, the options available today cater to everyone.

One of the biggest attractions of online casinos is the variety of games they offer. Websites casinosincanada provide detailed reviews and recommendations on the best platforms available, making it easier for players to choose a trustworthy casino.

Understanding Online Casino Regulations in Canada

The legal status of online gambling in Canada is unique. While gambling is allowed, it is regulated at the provincial level. This means that each province has its own rules regarding online casinos. For example, Ontario has introduced a fully regulated market through iGaming Ontario, allowing licensed operators to provide legal online gambling services.

Other provinces, such as British Columbia and Quebec, operate their own online casino platforms. However, many Canadians still play on international sites that accept players from Canada. These offshore casinos operate under licenses from jurisdictions such as Malta, Gibraltar, and Curacao.

Since each province sets its own rules, it’s important for players to check whether an online casino is legally allowed to operate in their area. Choosing a licensed casino ensures a safer experience, as these platforms follow strict guidelines to protect players.

The Most Popular Online Casinos in Canada

With so many online casinos available, choosing the right one can be difficult. Here are some of the top-rated casinos that Canadian players trust:

1. JackpotCity Casino

  • Established in 1998, JackpotCity is known for its wide selection of games.
  • Offers over 700 games, including slots, table games, and live dealer games.

  • Specializes in mobile gaming, offering over 2,500 games.
  • Known for fast withdrawals, often processed within 24 hours.
  • Provides a welcome bonus of up to $1,000 plus 100 free spins.
  • Holds licenses from iGaming Ontario and the Malta Gaming Authority.

4. PartyCasino

  • New players receive 100 free spins with no wagering requirements.
  • Regulated by the UK Gambling Commission and iGaming Ontario.

How to Choose the Right Online Casino

If you are new to online gambling, selecting a reliable casino is crucial. Here are a few things to look for:

1. Licensing and Security

Always choose a casino that is licensed by a trusted authority. This ensures fair gaming and secure transactions. Look for SSL encryption, which protects personal and financial data.

2. Game Selection

A good casino should offer a wide variety of games, including slots, table games, and live dealer options. Make sure the platform provides games from reputable software providers.

3. Bonuses and Promotions

Many casinos attract new players with welcome bonuses, free spins, and loyalty programs. Read the terms and conditions carefully to understand wagering requirements before claiming any offers.

4. Payment Methods

Choose a casino that supports convenient and secure payment options. Common methods include credit cards, e-wallets, and bank transfers. Fast withdrawal processing is a key factor to consider.

5. Customer Support

Reliable customer support is essential for a smooth gaming experience. Look for casinos that offer 24/7 assistance through live chat, email, or phone.

The Future of Online Gambling in Canada

The online gambling industry in Canada is evolving rapidly. Ontario’s success in regulating its online market may encourage other provinces to introduce similar frameworks. This could lead to safer and more transparent gaming environments across the country.

Technology is also changing the way people play. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are expected to enhance the gaming experience, making online casinos more interactive. Additionally, cryptocurrency payments may become more common, providing faster and more secure transactions.

Final Thoughts

Online casinos offer a great way to enjoy casino games without visiting a physical location. With the right precautions, players can have a fun and safe experience. Checking for proper licensing, choosing reputable platforms, and setting limits on gameplay are important steps in responsible gambling.

As the industry grows, more Canadian players will have access to better platforms, improved security, and a wider range of gaming options. Whether you are playing for fun or real money, always gamble responsibly and choose casinos that prioritize player protection. For the Silo, Vinayak Gupta.

Temple Grandin

Temple Grandin, you may or may not know, is a person. I had not heard of her until recently, but I suspect her name is going to become much more recognized. Time Magazine named her one of their Time 100 for 2010. Sure that was awhile ago but consider this- she made the list of the hundred most influential people in the WORLD. She has a website. I highly suggest you check it out.

Temple Grandin (2010), the film, is the authorized movie biography of this remarkable woman and one of the first movies that treated autism with respect. She was diagnosed with autism in 1950, when the disorder was still called infantile schizophrenia. Her mother was told that Temple’s options for any measure of achievement or satisfying relationship in life were nil. Institutionalization was offered as the only practical option. But her mother wouldn’t give up. Claire Danes utterly transforms herself to tell us the story of Temple’s emergence from a relatively isolated kind of consciousness into the person she is today: author, lecturer, PHD, world renowned animal expert and autism advocate.

One of the first things we learn about Grandin is that she thinks in pictures, which makes film an especially potent medium for telling her story. Director Mick Jackson uses images throughout the film to help us understand how Grandin sees and feels the world. This is in keeping with what some have called Grandin’s greatest contribution to science- she was the first autistic person able to articulate to a wide audience what it is like to be autistic. Jackson’s film will widen the influence of her legacy further still. As well as a great story, it is a moving work of art.

I’m not sure if the brilliance of Claire Danes’ performance can be overstated, but I will simply say this: I had no idea. This woman is an ACTRESS!!  HBO films are not considered for Oscars, but  if they did she would certainly be a strong nominee. For the Silo, Junior Selector.

Holiday Sparkling Wines Are Champagne Alternative Worth Toasting

As the holiday season and other celebratory occasions approach, Champagne remains a timeless classic—but it’s no longer the only option for sparkling wine lovers. From unexpected regions to unique flavor profiles, a world of bubbles is waiting to be discovered. The below highlights 7 Champagne Alternatives–a regionally-diverse array of stunning sparkling wines from across the globe that rival Champagne in quality, taste and affordability.

Skip the Champagne: 7 Sparkling Substitutes Worth Toasting

champagne.jpg

Champagne has long been the essential toast of holidays and other special occasions, but the landscape of sparkling wine is evolving. Today’s breed of bubbles offers an exciting range of choices from nearly every corner of the wine-producing world. Regions across the globe are proving they can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world-famous fizz, offering exciting alternatives for wine lovers ready to expand their horizons. And, as people’s tastes shift, so do their preferences for flavor profiles, sweetness levels and production methods, there are more new styles to discover as alternatives to Champagne.

Champagne is often enjoyed for its multi-layered aromas of fruit and brioche, finishing with a searing and elegant acidity. Yet, not all sparkling wines meet these lofty criteria, and some remarkable options exist that may surprise your palate and your wallet.

Corpinnat and Cava

It’s rare to see Cava and its innovative offshoot, Corpinnat, mentioned together, but these two Spanish sparkling wines share a commitment to quality. Corpinnat represents a collective of small, independent organic wineries that have opted out of the official Spanish quality hierarchy to craft sparkling wines that reflect their unique philosophies and practices. What sets Corpinnat apart from Cava is its stringent requirement that grapes must come from owned organic vineyards and be vinified on the winery’s premises. Each bottle must mature for a minimum of 18 months, surpassing Champagne’s minimum requirement by six months. Many producers opt for extended aging, with some wines maturing for 60 months or longer. This extended bottle maturation allows the wines to evolve from fresh fruity aromas into complex nutty and bread-like flavors, enriching the overall tasting experience. In contrast, Cava, while often perceived as more industrial, can also produce exceptional wines. Major producers like Freixenet and Codorniu dominate the market, leaving smaller-scale artisans with limited exposure. Like Corpinnat, Cava is primarily based on the indigenous grapes Xarel-lo, Macabeo, and Parellada, which deliver a delicate, fruity profile with a light body.

The German and Austrian Powerhouses

Cool climates are renowned for producing wines with vibrant acidity—the backbone of sparkling wine. This principle underpins the German and Austrian passion for their sparkling creation, known as Sekt. In these countries, Riesling often takes center stage, although you may also encounter Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and other varietals that can rival high-end Champagnes. Germany and Austria pride themselves on their quality sparkling wines. Austria has recently launched a new Charta, establishing a hierarchy for “Sekt Austria.” This pyramid includes “Grosse Reserve” (big reserve), “Reserve,” and the foundational “Sekt Austria” quality, with aging requirements ranging from a minimum of 6 months on the lees to at least 36 months for the highest tier.

This commitment to quality has garnered increased interest from both tourists and consumers alike, prompting Austria to appoint Andreas Vitasek as their new sparkling wine ambassador. When exploring German Sekt, focus on renowned regions like Mosel, Rheingau, and Rheinhessen. Notable producers include Kallfelz, Barth, and Raumland. In Austria, look for high-end offerings from Bründlmayer, Loimer, and Domäne Wachau.

Crémant de Bourgogne

If you prefer to stay in France, consider heading south to Bourgogne. The region primarily produces sparkling wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with Aligoté providing a refreshing exception. Crémant de Bourgogne offers a lighter, fruit-driven experience, illustrating a frothy texture that dances on the palate—an excellent alternative to its more famous cousin.

Cartizze: Prosecco’s Crown Jewel

In the northern Italian region of Veneto, the hill of Cartizze stands as Prosecco’s most revered site. Officially classified in 1969, its reputation as an exceptional origin stretches back more than two centuries.  Rising to 350 meters (1,150 feet) above sea level, Cartizze encompasses just 108 hectares (280 acres). With land prices exceeding 1 million Euros per hectare, it rivals the world’s most expensive vineyard sites, including those in Burgundy. Ownership rarely changes hands, with plots typically passed down through families, underscoring the value placed on this unique terroir. The slopes of Cartizze are so steep that vineyard work must be done entirely by hand. In some areas, workers use sledges to transport grapes and tools, their efforts evoking comparisons to mountaineering. This challenging terroir, combined with the elevation and a predominance of old vines, produces Prosecco of remarkable intensity and character. Most wines from Cartizze are crafted in a ‘dry’ style, leaving a touch of residual sugar. This subtle sweetness enhances the vibrant fruitiness, while the crisp acidity keeps the wine beautifully balanced. The result is a Prosecco of elegance and finesse, ideal for those looking to celebrate with something truly special.

Moscato d’Asti: The Sweet Charm of Piedmont

In the heart of Piedmont, a region famed for Nebbiolo’s brooding intensity and wines like Barolo and Barbaresco, Moscato d’Asti offers a gentler, more unassuming charm. Made from the highly aromatic Muscat grape, this sparkling sweet wine is often overlooked in favor of its more prestigious neighbors but has a unique role in the region’s vinous identity. The defining features of Moscato d’Asti are its fragrant sweetness, low alcohol, and gentle spritz. This combination allows producers to fully explore the grape’s potential, highlighting its characteristic notes of orange blossom, ripe apricot, and honeyed peach. At just 5.5–7% ABV, it provides a light and refreshing contrast to the weightier wines often associated with Piedmont. Its flexibility at the table is a key strength. Moscato d’Asti can elevate desserts like white chocolate and candied fruits or pair beautifully with creamy and blue cheeses. For some, it even becomes the dessert, offering a delicately sweet conclusion to a meal without overwhelming the palate.

Cap Classique: South Africa’s Sparkling Star

For those who find Italian fruitiness is too exuberant, South Africa’s Cap Classique offers an elegant alternative. Introduced as a defined style in 1971, this sparkling wine is crafted in the traditional method, involving a secondary fermentation in the bottle. While the classification is relatively modern, the South African tradition of producing sparkling wines dates back over 360 years, firmly rooted in the country’s winemaking history. Cap Classique spends a minimum of 15 months on the lees, allowing delicate notes of brioche and hazelnut to develop.

However, the hallmark of South African sparkling wine remains its bright, fruit-driven profile, often leaning into flavors of citrus, stone fruit, and even tropical notes, rather than the pronounced toastiness typical of Champagne. Today, Cap Classique has earned its place among the world’s finest sparkling wines. Its ability to balance value and quality makes it an appealing choice for celebrations, offering a distinctive South African character without pretension. Whether as a centerpiece for an event or an unassuming companion to the moment, it stands ready to impress.

Tasmania: A Sparkling Island of Innovation

Tasmania, Australia’s southernmost state, lies around 150 miles (240 kilometers) south of the mainland, separated by the often-turbulent Bass Strait. Known for its pristine wilderness and cool climate, it is the nation’s most southerly and coolest wine region, home to a scattering of nearly 1,000 offshore islands. This remoteness has shaped its identity as a haven for eco-tourism and, increasingly, as a center for world-class sparkling wine. The island’s wine industry is small but tightly focused, with producers working collaboratively and sustainably. Biosecurity is paramount, and tourists are often barred from entering vineyards to prevent soil-borne pests or diseases inadvertently carried on footwear. Inter-planting with native vegetation, allowing certain ‘weeds’ to flourish, and preserving wildlife corridors reflect Tasmania’s dedication to environmental harmony. Tasmania’s cool climate is particularly suited to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the cornerstone varieties of its sparkling wines. These wines are defined by their vivid fruit intensity, bracing acidity, and, in many cases, the nuanced autolytic complexity of toast and brioche. The sparkling wines often rival the quality of Champagne, though with a distinctive freshness and clarity born of the island’s maritime influence and clean air. Despite its small scale, Tasmanian sparkling wine is increasingly found on the shelves of fine wine retailers and the wine lists of high-end restaurants across the globe. Its ability to combine precision, elegance, and sustainability ensures Tasmania’s place among the leading sparkling wine regions of the world.

Emerging Regions

Beyond the traditional producers, numerous up-and-coming regions are crafting outstanding sparkling wines. The United Kingdom, Argentina, and cooler areas of California are all making their mark in the sparkling wine scene, offering fresh and innovative options for consumers looking to diversify their celebratory toast.

Champagne will long-remain a classic, of course, but it no longer holds an exclusive claim as the “must-have” sparkling wine for holidays and other special occasions. While this iconic bubbly is a favorite celebratory beverage for many, the world of wine offers a range of exciting alternatives that deserve due attention. For the Silo, Peter Douglas.

Colossal Cave Modernized And Rereleased

Acclaimed game designer Roberta Williams revives Colossal Cave as a retro, point-&-click, cave exploration puzzler. Based on the original 1970’s design by Will Crowther & Don Woods this 3D update maintains its vintage charm, while revitalizing it for modern gamers.

Colossal Cave is a reimagining of the original text-based adventure game, first introduced in 1975 by Will Crowther and Don Woods, as a fully immersive 3D VR experience.

Colossal Cave is already well known to tens of millions of gamers worldwide. Several elements of the game, such as the codewords “Xyzzy” and “Plugh”, are recognized instantly by many gamers.

Roberta Williams, who has received widespread industry recognition including several “Hall of Fame” awards, and who is the designer of several industry leading hit games, including King’s Quest, Phantasmagoria, Black Cauldron, and many more, is adapting the game for the VR world and bringing to life its many characters.

In the game, players explore a vast and extensive cave, seeking treasures within. Along the way, they will encounter a variety of characters, some of whom will attack and some of whom will entertain. For instance, there is a Troll (at the troll bridge), a bear, a snake, dwarves (seven, of course), and a pirate. The player’s quest is to find all the treasure. The challenge is not easy, and there will be a wide variety of puzzles to overcome.

SOME OF THE GAMES BY ROBERTA WILLIAMS

Ken Williams

Ken started his career as an IBM mainframe software engineer in the Los Angeles area, specializing in databases and networked systems, while consulting with a wide variety of companies, including McDonnell Douglas, Electra Records, Bekins Moving and Storage, Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, Financial Decision Systems and others.

Ken, alongside his wife Roberta, co-founded Sierra On-Line in 1979. Ken ran the company as its CEO for nearly twenty years. During Ken’s tenure at Sierra the company, Sierra regularly topped bestseller charts worldwide, releasing over 200 titles for a variety of hardware platforms and languages. Sierra became a public company on Nasdaq in 1987, grew to one thousand employees, and was sold in 1996 for one billion dollars.

Sierra was known for its technology leadership, and pioneered such technologies as vector graphics, sound and music in computer games, avatars, and network games.

In his role as Sierra’s CEO, Williams focused on innovation: “I’m not sure how typical I am of other CEOs. Most of my time is spent looking at product. To me, everything is about being able to build awesome product. Any game which does not push the state of the art leaves an opportunity for a competitor’s game to look better.”

Sierra’s extensive list of hit products include: Leisure-Suit Larry, King’s Quest, Phantasmagoria, Space Quest, Red Baron, Nascar Racing, Hoyle’s Card Games, Dr. Brain, Mickey’s Space Adventure, Half-Life, Ultima, and many more.

After selling Sierra, Ken and Roberta retired to Mexico where they lived for over twenty years. They also purchased a small, rugged, ocean-crossing capable yacht and used it to explore the world, visiting over twenty-five countries and crossing both the Atlantic and the Pacific. Their adventures include crossing the Bering Sea as part of a three-boat group calling themselves “The Great Siberian Sushi Run”. Ken and Roberta enjoy a “second 15 minutes of fame” as world cruisers and Ken wrote four books about their travels.

In 2021, while locked down by the Pandemic, Ken found time to write about the “Sierra days” and captured the history in the bestselling book, “Not All Fairy Tales Have Happy Endings”. With a renewed interest in games, Ken decided to dig into how modern games are produced and spent time learning the Unity 3D Engine. In a loop back to their earlier history, Roberta suggested Ken program a game. Thus, was invented their new company: Cygnus Entertainment.
