Audio Technica Intros Its Finest Headphones Ever

Performance and elegance meet in the new ATH-AWX7000, Audio-Technica’s finest headphones ever

Stow, OH, October 2026 — Audio-Technica announces the introduction of its ATH-AWX7000 Closed Back Dynamic Wooden Headphones, combining ultimate audio performance with exquisite Japanese wood craftsmanship to create the company’s finest headphones ever. The new ATH-AWX7000 features newly developed HMD (Hybrid Matrix Diaphragm) technology along with additional advancements and sets an extraordinary new sonic standard in audiophile dynamic headphones.

The housings of the ATH-AWX7000 are crafted from Kiso cypress, a prized wood used to construct Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. The wood is hand-finished in traditional Echizen lacquer to bring out the natural color of the wood’s grain. Over time, the color will darken, to add to the wood’s beauty and distinctive character. The headphones’ frame and other components are finished in the traditional Japanese deep navy hue of kachi-iro (the traditional lucky color of the samurai).

The lightweight magnesium frame features aluminum sliders that allow precise size adjustments, and deerskin is used for the earpads and headband for superior comfort and sound isolation. Like all Audio-Technica wooden headphones, the ATH-AWX7000 is manufactured in Tokyo, Japan, to the absolute highest standards.

Size matters- 58mm Diaphragm

Audio-Technica’s newly-developed HMD Hybrid Matrix Diaphragm employs a composite material made from polymer film and a metal dome. It is manufactured using the company’s HXDT molding process, which produces a large-diameter 58mm diaphragm that can be aligned with the driver’s high-efficiency magnet structure, voice coil and other components with extreme accuracy.

The HMD technology enables the composite diaphragm to maintain its shape even under high air pressure. By driving the air with a more precise pistonic motion even below the audible range, the result is a level of bass power and musical accuracy previously unattainable in other closed-back designs, with extraordinary sonic purity, resolution and dynamic impact. The sound is warm and lush, immersing the listener in an inviting musical expanse.
