Support Needed To Ensure Clean Water Supplies In Ontario Greenbelt

Dear Silo, in December last year 2017, the Province launched a consultation process on expanding the Greenbelt to protect critical water resources in Ontario. While several significant water systems are included in the proposal, key vulnerable areas are missing.

We have 24 hours to tell the government to expand their proposal to ensure clean water supplies for future generations.

Over 1.25 million people in our region rely on groundwater for their drinking needs. And, our lakes and wetlands are home to numerous at-risk species of fish and wildlife. We urgently need features like moraines, wetlands and headwaters that filter and store water protected from the impacts of urban sprawl and climate change.

9 in 10 Ontarians support the Greenbelt’s protection of water, farmland and nature. You can be one of them.

Together we can grow the Greenbelt to protect our most precious resource, water.

    Ontario PC Government seeking input on climate change solutions

    I (and my Party) am asking the public to provide input into the future of Ontario’s climate change solution.

    Consultations are being done via the Internet by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks until Nov. 16. The consultation will focus on resiliency efforts, pollution reduction and how government can better partner with the private sector on sustainable solutions, instead of the previous government’s job-killing carbon tax.

    “We share an opportunity to work together to tackle the big environmental challenges that currently face our province and, indeed, the entire world,” said Rod Phillips, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. “At the same time, Ontario has many resourceful and innovative individuals and businesses – we want to hear from you on how best to balance a healthy economy with a healthy environment.”

    The plan will include several areas of focus, such as:

    Creating an understanding of the effects that climate change is having on our households, businesses, communities and public infrastructure to better prepare and strengthen our resiliency.
    Ensuring polluters are held accountable and creating dedicated measures that will efficiently reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
    Improving Ontario’s business climate by unlocking the power of the private sector to finance and drive innovative climate solutions. This will include an emissions-reduction fund to invest in technology-based and other solutions to reduce emissions in Ontario.
    Finding a balanced solution that puts people first, makes life more affordable for families, and takes Ontario’s role in fighting climate change seriously.

    This is our opportunity to provide input into a made-in-Ontario solution that will tackle climate change. We are looking for real solutions instead of a tax that hits us at the pumps.
