MP Finley announces $300,000 investment at the fishing harbour in Port Dover, Ontario

ODT Marine- The last of my Port Dover shots for this year. While the Port is first and foremost a fishing centre, there were other craft in the harbour, including this little tug boat. I use the tern loosely, but I am sure it is used for towing and other general service work around dredgers and barges that work in the area. I was particularly attracted to the colours of the boat and the barge here, and the reflections in the water. The latter were undulating and I should perhaps tried the movie mode on my camera, but that is hindsight. I was pleased with the way the reflections came out and the image does give a sense of the movement. image: by lightcollector flickr.com

PORT DOVER, Ontario – The Honourable Diane Finley, Member of Parliament for Haldimand-Norfolk, on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, announced today the completion of a $300,000 repair project at the small craft harbour in Port Dover, Ontario.

“Our government is committed to improving small craft harbours in Ontario so that individuals employed in our fisheries can continue to earn a living and successfully contribute to the local economy,” said MP Finley.  “By investing in small craft harbours our government is ensuring that those who work in the fishery have safe and functional facilities for years to come.”

“Safe and efficient fishing harbours are critical to those who make their living from the fishery,” said Minister Ashfield. “The project we are announcing today will improve the safety and operational efficiency of this harbour. Our Government continues to invest in coastal communities and prepare Canada’s fishing industry for the future.”

This work was in addition to major projects and dredging work being carried out at approximately 95 fishing harbours throughout the country, announced in July 2012. The $300,000 investment was in support of safety-related repairs to the fendering system, adjacent parapet and ramps on the harbour jetties at Port Dover.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada undertakes such projects in cooperation with the local harbour authorities that manage and operate facilities for local users. Close cooperation between the Department and harbour authorities allows the federal government to continue to provide an operable system of harbours and facilities throughout Canada in support of the commercial fishing industry. http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca Follow us on Twitter! www.Twitter.com/DFO_MPO

The Government of Canada remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security.
