Providing support to our local communities is at the heart of everything Haldimand County undertakes throughout the year. Initiatives developed by staff highlight the importance that the County places on the health and well being of residents and the communities that make this County great.
At a Corporate event [held on Tuesday December 4th] , Haldimand County staff coordinated a project to collect donations of food and toys for distribution to Haldimand’s five food banks: Jarvis Caring Cupboard, Hagersville Food Bank, Caledonia and District Food Bank, Dunnville Salvation Army and Cayuga Service Clubs Christmas Hamper Program. Staff from all Departments and Divisions contributed a large number of toys and non perishable food items [that were] delivered to the food banks by the week of December 10, 2012.
In addition to this project, many Haldimand County staff members make contributions throughout the year with a payroll deduction plan that is overseen by Haldimand County’s Staff Charitable Donations Committee. All donations from this program go to local charities including: Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program, Dunnville Hospital & Healthcare Foundation, United Way, Central Haldimand Charities, Victim Crisis Assistance & Referral Service, and the West Haldimand Hospital & Healthcare Foundation. Since its inception in 2009, monetary donations have totaled over $31,700.
Mayor Hewitt noted “we are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful area within a very prosperous country. However, that doesn’t mean that everyone has an equal share of the wealth. By contributing throughout the year via the Staff Charitable Donations Committee and specifically during the festive season, Haldimand County staff are helping to support their friends and neighbours throughout Haldimand. I am very proud of the staff and their heartfelt generosity as evidenced by the donations at the recent Corporate Event and throughout the year.”
